Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Aiello.
Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our company was born out of the idea that you the average person shouldn’t have to break the bank to afford quality items. As people who love quality, but are on a family budget, we wanted to reach others like us.
Living in Northern California, we launched our company in January 2020, starting off with sunglasses and the idea that quality and affordability can go hand in hand. Our family also rides dirt bikes, and even though it’s an amazing sport, it can get very costly with all the gear; especially when you have 4 riders in your family. In June of 2020, we launched our dirt bike goggles, under the same mantra of quality and affordability.
Going to local dirt bike races is where we really started seeing growth. The moto community has been amazing and we have developed many incredible relationships, not only with our sponsored riders but also with their families.
We have been thrown many curve balls along the way, but have overcome them all and met some incredible people. We initially launched our company under another name, but in November of 2021, we rebranded to Onium and brought on the most amazing woman to ever ride a dirt bike, Vicki Golden. We also had to go away from sunglasses, but are working on bringing them back!
In rebranding, we wanted a name that represented who we are and what we hope to achieve. Onium is an ion with a positive charge and whatever onium attaches to, it makes that thing positive. Our whole goal is to be a positive influence everywhere we go. From helping families afford necessary gear, to social media, to our riders, track owners, and race promoters we come in contact with. We want to be a positive force in whatever our company is attached to.
We moved our family to Murfreesboro, TN in June of this year, in search of a better quality of life and a better place to continue raising our children. We have already met some incredible people here and found new tracks and race events. The highlight of our move so far was being able to visit Loretta Lynn’s Ranch and watch 6 of our sponsored riders race against the top riders in the nation.
We are so excited to continue our story here and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trademarking has been the hardest part. Even when you do your homework, it still is incredibly difficult to get names and logos through. The United States Trademarking office will approve your application and then give the world 30 days to oppose it.
You’re competing against large companies who just have attorneys on retainer to sit and watch trademarks. Even if you are not the same, they get you on the “confusingly similar” argument, and when you’re against a large brand worth millions and sometimes billions…
It’s not a fight you can afford, so you just regroup and move in a different direction.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Brian was a Paramedic/Firefighter in the California Bay Area prior to our move.
The main thing that pushed us out and made our decision to jump full force into this business was the mandates. The hardest decision we had to make was giving up a career he loved to stand up for what we felt was right. Some may or may not agree with our decision and that’s ok. We respect everyone’s difference of opinion and think that our differences are what make the world go round.
Morgan was a Realtor in California for the last 5 years, helping many families buy and sell their homes. Since she loves real estate and helping people, she is continuing her career here in Tennessee. She is currently a Realtor with Realty One Group Music City – Nashville. Located at 2920 Berry Hill Dr, Ste. #210, Nashville, TN 37204. Office: 615 925-0204, Cell: 925 642-9125
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We are pretty much an open book, so there’s not much that people don’t know about us. Not everyone knows that we have been dating since high school.
We were also teen parents so there’s a special place in our hearts for all those teen moms and dads. It was a tough time in life, but we had an amazing community around us and always hope to be there for someone who might find themselves in the same situation.
