Meet Brittany Hall of The Nashville Home Guys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hall.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I graduated from the University of San Diego with dual degrees in Business Administration and Spanish with an emphasis in Marketing and International Business. While in college, I was able to study abroad three times: a summer in Guadalajara, Mexico, a semester in Madrid, Spain, and a winter session in Buenos Aires, Argentina. These experiences greatly impacted my appreciation for other cultures and peoples as well as my own personal development. Prior to college, I was extremely introverted and shy. After having grown up in the Chicagoland area, moving cross country for school, and spending months living in foreign countries; I was forced to adapt. I started to thrive on social interaction and experiences and found that I could easily make friends and connections no matter where I was. Perhaps this is what led me into a career in sales.

After college I was hired into a startup company that served the Latin American community with their technology. It was a fun and exciting job but ultimately the company fell victim to the 2009 recession and I was laid off within 9 months of starting. It is scary to be laid off without warning and without a backup plan, especially when I had just closed on my first home two weeks prior and now had a mortgage and no income. Immediately I went into application and interviewing mode.

It took some time (since few companies were hiring in a recession) but I eventually landed a job in Sales with a major hotel chain at their corporate offices in Chicago. For 12 years I excelled in my career in hospitality holding leadership roles in Sales, Recruiting, and Learning Development. Then Covid hit. First I was furloughed (unemployed with the promise of coming back to my job, someday) but as the pandemic went on, it was clear that the hospitality industry would never be the same. Six months after being told I was furloughed, I was officially laid off.

Luckily, having learned from what happened to me in the recession, I had already been well on my way to figuring out my next move. For YEARS I had been wanting to get into Real Estate but with my corporate success, I didn’t have the time nor the motivation to try to pursue another career path. Covid was my opportunity and my motivation and I am forever grateful to my fiancé for helping me recognize that and encouraging me to go for it. In July 2020 (3 months prior to being laid off), I took a two weeks intensive online Real Estate Course, studied on my own for several weeks, and passed the exam with flying colors. I didn’t know any Realtors in Nashville but I had friends that knew some. So I started there and I do what I do best: I networked. After a month, I had interviewed with 11 brokerages and four teams, weighing out the positives and negatives each agency and team offered and ultimately choosing the team that I felt best matched my personality, goals, and morals: The Nashville Home Guys.

Eight months into Real Estate and I can confidently say I am happy with the decisions I’ve made and grateful for this opportunity. Change is terrifying and if I had to leave hospitality on my own accord, I don’t think I could have done it; I was comfortable, safe, and enjoyed what I did. So for that, I am grateful that Covid forced me to pivot. Forced me to get uncomfortable. Forced me to learn and grow. Forced me to follow a dream.

I am also thankful I found my way to the Nashville Home Guys. Steve and Sam Miller have been wonderful leaders and mentors and their “family style” approach reminds me of the collaborative and inclusive atmosphere I came from. It feels like home. Eight months in and I’ve closed two sales, have five under contract, three actively searching clients, and soon…my first listing! In the darkest of times, I didn’t think this would ever be possible but it’s happening and I am in awe of what I’ve accomplished through to this point.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As you can probably deduce from my story of how I’ve arrived to where I am today, It has not been an easy road. I’ve had the unfortunate luck of being laid off not once but twice due to forces out of my own control. When this happens, it is so easy to get angry, feel demoralized, lost, and feel sorry for yourself; those feelings and emotions are VALID. However, the biggest challenge of all is overcoming those feelings and emotions vs. sitting with them for too long. Life will keep happening around you even if you feel as though your world has stopped. As long as that forward momentum is going to continue, you may as well help it work in your favor by putting in positive energy and effort instead of focusing on the negative.

The other challenge I’ve faced is the idea of starting over/starting something new. It is absolutely 100% terrifying. You are leaving something comfortable, secure, something you know, something that brings you confidence and you are trading it for the new, unknown, uncomfortable, POSSIBILITY that you could find confidence, security, and success somewhere else. It is the nervous yet exciting feeling I had when I made the personal choice to move to Nashville three years ago; no one was making me move, I chose this. I am feeling it again now as I journey through this new career path in real estate. All I can say is that if it scares you but it excites you, it is definitely worth it.

This perspective comes not only from the struggles I’ve faced in my professional career but also personally. I’ve lost many friends and family members in my now adult life but the most profound loss was my father who suddenly passed when I was 24yrs old and barely starting my professional journey. As a Vice President in the world of intellectual property finance, he would often tell me that he was still exploring what he wanted to be when he “grew up”. I didn’t understand how that could be for someone in their 50s who had seemingly achieved so much and was considered an expert in his field. Now, I think I somewhat get it. You aren’t defined by or tied to just one job, industry, or title. If you have a dream or goals but they are big and scary, don’t worry so much about what could happen if you explore them, focus on making them happen. We only get this one life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Nashville Home Guys?
The Nashville Home Guys started with Steve & Sam Miller, a father/son duo and local Nashvillians. They’ve steadily expanded their team over the years to now consist of 7 agents, a Marketing Manager, and Transaction Coordinator. What I love most about our team is that we are small enough to still have that “family” feel. We are a tight-knit group and we all help each other out. So instead of one set of eyes looking out for you and your interests, you have nine pairs of eyes looking for your dream home, reviewing your contracts, marketing your property, ensuring that your home buying or selling process goes as smoothly as possible.

With regard to my personal brand, I treat each client as if they are my only client. I value personal relationships and look forward to learning about you, your family, your dog/cat/fish/etc. I genuinely care and want to help you, it’s the eternal heart of service in me. Coming from 12 years in the corporate hospitality world, I am well groomed in my business acumen, customer service, and have years of experience in navigating legal contracts and sales transactions. I have a thirst for knowledge and you can rest assured that if I don’t have the answer to your question, I will get you an answer. I act with integrity and believe deeply in holding my word. I will always treat others with respect, including the agent sitting opposite me in a transaction and especially my clients. I am a down to earth, positive, and (typically) happy person; though we all have our days. I love to lead with laughter where appropriate and enjoy making others smile. The home buying/selling process can be stressful but I hope to make it smooth and as enjoyable as possible. I love Nashville and am excited to help the community!

What makes you happy?
My fiancé and my cat, Henry. They make me smile regularly whether through jokes, a cute look in my direction, or their unwavering love and support. Likewise, my family and friends for their love and support.

Being outside. The sunshine and fresh air does wonders for me. You can often find me on Percy Priest Lake, hiking one of the many trails around Nashville, or working out with my Camp Gladiator family.

Fitness-there’s something about a good sweat sesh to start the day and the feeling of accomplishment when you conquer something really, physically challenging.

Helping my clients-the market is really tough right now, especially for buyers. So when I get to see the smile on their face/hear their excitement when a contract is accepted and then see the joy and relief when we close, it makes my day and puts me on cloud 9! Likewise, these transactions can be stressful for sellers who typically have a reason or motivation for selling and while getting under contract might not be hard right now, making it to the closing table could be. I ride this roller coaster with you and try to take out as many twists, turns, and bumps as I can. I am legitimately over the moon excited for my clients when they close and can move into the next chapter of their lives!
