Meet Brooke Brooks of The Daily Press Coffee Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Brooks.

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our daughter started out as a barista at a small local business and we got really interested in the actual art of coffee and the community it builds. We started brainstorming and building wishlists on Amazon with our title of “Big Caffeine Dreams” and from there it grew into a reality slowly but surely. We like the idea of a trailer so that we are flexible with locations and even our own schedules. With having kids it’s always been important to us to be available for school and sport events. We never wanted it to be a make or break business but we wanted it to be enjoyable for the two of us to work together. For 3 years it’s been part time (for the most part because it’s really full time when you put all the shopping, cleaning, scheduling, and planning on top of when you are actually open) but we will be moving into this full time hopefully in the fall. We love that we are mobile and can attend fairs, sporting events, farmers markets, and more! Not just expect those to come to us as we can move to where the crowds are!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a mobile trailer, it takes lots of permits and inspections. Permits for each county you serve in and some of these are very costly.

Also not realizing how a “part time” job isn’t really part time and while we were also working a corporate 9-5 so it meant working upwards of 60-80 hours a week and sometimes 7 days!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a mobile coffee trailer that serves lattes, cold brew, matcha, chai, hot chocolate, frappes, shimmery lemonades, and shimmery energy infusions. We wanted to be sure to carry a non caffeine item and also cater to children so we brainstormed to carry shimmery lemonades. Everyone loves a little “sparkle” in their day. Our name and several menu items are newspaper themed. We thought it was fitting as “back in our day” you used to read the newspaper while you had a cup of coffee. We are most proud of our fan favorite shimmery energy infusions as when we started 3 years ago, these weren’t found many places. We also use a small local family owned coffee bean roasting company. We tested many coffee beans before opening and hands down Summit Sisters was by far our favorite. So this is how we want to continue to run our small family owned business is to continue to support other small family/locally owned businesses. The hubby is also a retired disabled veteran.
