Meet Caitlin Costello of Affiner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Costello. She and their team share their story with us below:

Affiner was founded in 2016 by Caitlin Costello. Caitlin studied fashion retailing in college and has worked in the fashion industry ever since.

After working for several designers in New York City, Caitlin saw an opportunity in the market, and Affiner was created. Caitlin prides herself on styling clients for whatever they may need; from casual wear to event dressing, she aims to make her clients feel like the best version of themselves.

During the pandemic, Caitlin moved to Nashville, where she expanded Affiner to the Music City.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a journey for sure! Part of the excitement of owning your own business is you are the responsible one, but that also means you can only be upset with yourself when something goes wrong. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, but they have all led Affiner to where it is today.

One of the first struggles we faced when getting started was website development. I thought I had a great vision for a styling platform, and it turned out it didn’t operate the way I had imagined. We pivoted and worked with a great development team to create our second version of the site.

The pandemic also threw our business into a tailspin. With everyone staying in, no one was needing styling services. We found a way to work digitally with our clients that were interested in shopping and started offering closet cleanouts virtually. Like everyone during Covid-19, we adapted!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are re-inventing the concept of a personal stylist — making it accessible for everyone. Whether you need help with a look for a special occasion, a new job, or want to completely revamp your wardrobe, we have a service to fit your needs.

Affiner specializes in closet refinements (clean out and edits), personal styling, shopping, and digital wardrobing (which are virtual appointments). Through outstanding customer service, access to covetable brands, and a hassle-free in-home or virtual styling experience, we provide a personalized approach to your personal style.

I am proud that we have stayed true to our original vision of helping clients feel like the best versions of themselves. At the root of everything we do, our clients are our priority.

Typically, clients reach out for a variety of reasons – from figuring out what to wear for a special event, to inspiration for a new chapter of life, or simply, that they don’t prefer shopping, we offer a range of services.

However, each appointment begins with an initial consultation to better understand what the client is looking for, and more about their style preferences. From there, depending upon the agreed appointment type, I work with different brands and vendors to curate the best items that suit the client’s needs and budget.
