Hi Caleb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My dad is a producer so I would always be in sessions with him. He played a song with a guitar part I really liked and from then on I know I wanted to do music. I started writing at fifteen and leading worship while also falling in love with rnb. I started writing songs because I couldn’t sing as high as all the singers I loved. I wanted to sing, but wanted to feel comfortable doing it. I put music down for a little in college and started dropping again. I had a song do pretty well so I took that as confirmation that this was the route God wanted me to go. I started dropping more and more and eventually moved to Nashville. I’ve been here for six years now just grinding and releasing music. I wanna write the best songs I can. I wanna write catchy hits that also say something. Music can sometimes be fun and not deep, as long as I’m also expressing the deepest parts of who I am. Some cool opportunities have been presenting themselves and I’m excited to continue growing!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not. I think a lot of artist’s struggle with their self worth. You’re not supposed to tie your identity to streams or numbers. It’s supposed to be all about self expression and creativity. It’s also a business and you want to make a living so it can be discouraging when it feels like nothings moving forward. If I didn’t have a great community of friends, I don’t know if I would’ve lasted this long. I honestly love making music with my friends and it’s made a huge difference tapping into other creatives for inspiration.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a songwriter, artist, and musician. I specialize in jazz guitar blended with rnb. I’d say my writing is what I’m most known for. I’m a big melody person. I just love to come up with Melodie’s that are unexpected but also very pleasing to the ear. I think my dedication to creating something that is different from what most people are doing is what sets me apart. I don’t ever want to be a part of something subpar and my focus is always creating that thing that makes people look up or pay attention.
How do you define success?
Being able to take care of my future family doing what I love. Financial freedom feels like a good metric of success. I don’t have to be a billionaire, but I don’t have any to work for anyone but myself. I want to show my future kids and family that you can do anything you set your mind to. I want to win a Grammy or two. That’d be dope.
