Meet Carrie Duborg of Mount Juliet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Duborg.

Hi Carrie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Creativity of any kind is my happy place and always has been since childhood. I truly enjoy all of it, but I’ve found my main love is painting. I didn’t start painting regularly until my late 20’s and since then have participated in various events and shows around the southeast. It ebbs and flows with life as I’m a busy mother and wife with a full-time job so finding time to paint can be challenging. I enjoy sharing my work with others and seeing the joy it can bring. The past few years I’ve been mostly painting pets which started with a simple portrait of my own fur babies posted on instagram. I haven’t stopped since. People love their pets! It is also very special to me to create with others whether it’s leading workshops or just making art at home with my family. Creating is good for the soul!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After having children, I stayed home with them for a few years and decided to paint full time. That was hard!! Trying to start my own business with 2 kids under 2 years old was a crazy time and I ultimately decided it wasn’t for me. I enjoy painting so much more when I can paint at leisure and not have the pressure of it being my full time job. For now, I will paint when I can, but my priority is being with my family and enjoying this season of life the best I can.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I graduated from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) with a degree in Interior Design. I landed in the field of stone and tile and work at Ann Sacks in Nashville. I enjoy working in a beautiful and creative environment, assisting designers, architects, and home owners select the materials to bring their vision to life.

In my spare time, I paint, mainly commissioned pet portraits. I’ve really loved this niche of paining. It is a subject that always brings a smile and as an animal lover, it never gets old to receive adorable pet photos from clients.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I recently participated in a pop-up show at Ash Blue, a store in Green Hills. I would love to have more opportunities like that to meet new people and to advertise my work.
