Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Cannon.
Hi Casey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I had a very close family friend, Janie Varn, that owned a wedding planning business. I often helped her set up on wedding days and that grew to helping her on the backend revamp some forms, contacting vendors, etc. It was fun and I enjoyed it but never thought it would be a career. I went to college for photography, did a little work for a wedding planner there as well, and continued to help Janie as needed after college too even though I was living outside of Washington D.C. at the time.
About 9 months post-graduation Janie offered me a full-time position which would eventually lead to taking over the company once she retired. To say the least, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. My new husband and I moved back to Nashville and I worked with her full time for about 2 years. That is when I really realized how much I love planning weddings and how natural it really felt. In January of 2019 the business became mine, I changed the name just slightly, and have been so grateful to continue growing since then! If it weren’t for the amazing relationships and reputation Janie created for her business, I know I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The same year I officially took over the business, I also had my first baby. So, I learned how to be a mom and a business owner in the same year (and continue to learn how to do that). It is a little crazy at times but I’m so thankful to have a job and a business that allows me to grow a family and serve so many amazing couples along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My passion for planning and designing weddings comes from the fact that I believe marriage is God’s greatest gift. Without the marriage to celebrate, the wedding would be empty. Creating weddings that have personal touches and meaning behind them is what I love to do. It’s not just another Pinterest perfect wedding, but a reflection of the union God created with two people.
What’s next?
Early 2022 I will be hiring another full-time planner so I can serve more couples, but also give my full planning clients an even more hands-on approach with even more stellar attention to detail. I’m so excited to be working at multiple new-to-me venues next year and continue to improve my design process as well!
