Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Banegas.
Hi Chris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
When I was a kid, I remember always being fascinated with music. From a young age, I knew I couldn’t sing, produce, or even play an instrument. However, I knew I could attempt to produce music videos. It wasn’t until I was a sophomore in high school that my best friend and I decided to upload a music video at the time. Surprisingly, about the whole school watched the video. I remember receiving positive feedback from my peers that I told myself at 16 that I wouldn’t want to do anything else. I felt like I finally found my purpose, Although being from Knoxville made it a little difficult, in the sense of what I wanted, which was being able to make a living doing music videos full time. At 19, I felt like I did everything I could that Knoxville had to offer. I shot many music videos for local artists and even hosted my concert. In the Summer of 2020, I decided to move to Murfreesboro to finish my studies at MTSU. My first year in a new city was quite difficult, but as soon as I started networking and meeting new friends, things started going forward for me. I started working around Nashville, shooting for concerts, nightclubs, and, most importantly, my music videos. There’s so much I still want to accomplish. However, I am thankful for finally having the opportunity to travel and work for artists, companies, and established film productions.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
My first year in Murfreesboro was very difficult. I didn’t release any content in 2020, which was very unusual for me. I was spending a lot of time doubting myself and questioning if I wanted to shoot music videos anymore. It wasn’t until my best friend Marcos Chang stepped into the picture and pushed me to get off my ass and continue producing videos.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a freelance filmmaker based in Nashville, TN. I am known for filming music videos, concerts, and nightclubs. I am most proud of being able to shoot music videos alongside my best friend, Marcos Chang, who is also an artist. It’s hard to meet someone you can connect with and achieve similar goals. We both push each other to be the best versions of ourselves, and having him in my corner makes my goals seem more realistic. I know we will receive the credit we deserve very soon. What I believe sets me apart from other filmmakers is that I don’t say yes to everyone I work with, especially when it comes to shooting a music video. I am here to build relationships with the people I work with, and if I agree to produce a music video for you, it is because I genuinely believe in you and support who you are.
What’s next?
I plan to work on bigger-budget music videos while traveling and doing what I love. I can’t wait to work my first tour alongside Daisha Mcbride this summer. Finally, Second, I can’t wait to release my first Spanish music video. It will be a very important and special moment since I have always wanted to shed light on my Hispanic roots in a video. Finally, I can’t wait to see my name being credited in a movie coming out very soon this year.
