Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Love.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My journey began when I was 13 years old and I began playing shows on historic Beale Street in Memphis Tennessee. From there, I was in numerous bands playing throughout the south. Eventually, I became a solo artist. I played festivals and clubs. Opened up for the likes of Maroon 5, Everclear, Gavin Degraw, and Jason Derulo, etc.
Eventually, I decided to forgo the artist route but still needed to create. I got into producing around 2011. I recorded artists out of my house in Nashville. Eventually, I built my own studio in Lebanon where I’ve had clients from all over the country come to record. I’ve been featured in Forbes magazine, at the age of 16, I won the Jimi Hendrix guitar competition. In 2015, I won the best producer by the Nashville Industry Music Awards.
I’ve been nominated five times by numerous other awards including the SEA awards. Most recently I was featured by sub 40 as one of the most influential individuals in Nashville under 40 years old. Currently, I work with all genres mainly focusing on country and hard rock in production. In mixing, I do everything from pop, hip hop, country, rock, and metal.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. I have struggled with anxiety for the majority of my life. There were times when I barely had any money and had to work retail jobs when I thought I would never get to work in music again.
I’m also a stay-at-home dad so half of my days are consumed with taking care of my kids and homeschooling them. But that is my greatest and most fulfilling job.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am known as a producer. I help bring songs to life. I work with all types of songwriters who need their vision released to the public. Typically, what I do is help arrange and finalize a song for the artist or writer. In my day-to-day work, I perform the majority of the instruments on the records. I record the vocalist, then I mix and send it over to mastering afterward for the final product.
With the majority of the work being done in-house by me, it cuts down the cost for the client. I have been blessed to work with such amazing talent throughout middle Tennessee. I’m most proud of being the 2015 best producer who has been voted by the Nashville industry music awards. I take great pride in each and every song I work on as it is a different journey every time.
A pivotal role in my journey has been with the help of my mastering engineer, MT Champion.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that it still feels like a small town. It is a major city but the people are down to earth and still very close-knit. What I like least about the city is that it is transforming rapidly into a giant corporate hub.
