Meet Chris Wilkinson of Smoky Mountain Process And Legal Services & Smoky Mountain Offender Tracking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Wilkinson.

Hi Chris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Richmond Virginia and lived all over Virginia and a little peninsula on the Jersey Shore thats also home to the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States ( it was built in 1764 and survived cannonballing by the British and Camouflaged from German Uboats in World War II) After becoming an EMT at 16, I graduated from Central Virginia Community College in 1992 with a Certificate in being a Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician. Believing my goal in life was to take care of people, I worked in Intensive Cares/ Emergency Rooms and on flight teams managing life support equipment. In 2001, I had an accident that disabled me and effectively ended my medical career. For the next 14 years I battled health issues including learning to walk again after a back surgery gone awry. In 2015 I moved to Knoxville and this is where my life would take the turn to land me on the path to where I am now. Coming to Knoxville sight unseen, and as it turned out in not such a great neighborhood, I observed a lady seemingly casing my house. I confronted her only to find out she wasn’t just a Process Server but the owner of her own company. She taught me the basics and after working for her for about a year, and ending what can only be described as a very messy marriage. I struggled working 5 gig type jobs to fund my dream of my own litigation support firm. In late 2017, I met the most wonderful woman who loved me and supported me and we started Smoky Mountain Process and Legal Services. Smoky Mountain Process and Legal was founded not just to serve process but with the ultimate goal in mind of providing most anything an attorney could need outside of their office. We were so poor then that all we got was a $300 line of credit, bought the best printer and scanner that we could, got a phone number and some business cards and went to work. The first 2 years came slow but steady work and then the pandemic hit. Undeterred, a month into Covid we answered the calls when others didn’t and have been booming ever since. In 2023, we began laying the groundwork of an off shoot of Smoky Mountain Process and Legal Services aimed at fighting Domestic Violence, Smoky Mountain Offender Tracking. SMOT provides GPS ANKLE MONITORING and Victim Notification in compliance with Tennessee Debbie and Marie Domestic Violence Prevention Act. So here we are 8 years later, me and that same amazing proving Process Serving, Mobile Notary, Marriage Officiation, Skip Tracing.. and now Ankle Monitoring to combat Domestic Violence.. its a lot of hard work but I sure enjoy it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Serious medical issues
Messy Divorce
Being economically disadvantaged

We’ve been impressed with Smoky Mountain Process And Legal Services & Smoky Mountain Offender Tracking , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Smoky Mountain Process And Legal Services provides anything an attorney or law firm might need outside of their office. We provide Investigative Service of Process, Mobile Notary Services, DNA and Alcohol Testing, and as I previously mentioned Smoky Mountain Offender Tracking provides GPS Ankle Monitoring and Victim Notification for Domestic Violence Cases. We are known for finding the most difficult of people to track down and get served. As the great Pat Summit once said ” No one cares what you know until they know that you care.” We know that what we do affects peoples lives and if we don’t care about that.. then we miss the big picture that often times clients cant move on or be made whole again from a serious accident, bad marriage or dispute of some other kind that is consuming their lives. If we dont do our job well or do it incorrectly it can affect their outcomes.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family, my dogs, and my business. Coming from not a great childhood, its important to me that I am kind, decent, and the best I can possibly be for my family, and my dogs. They have loved and supported me through a lot. Followed only by my business and that was because I was never supposed to be here and Smoky Mountain Process and Legal Services wasn’t ever supposed to be all that it has become .. but simply a way to put some extra money in my pocket. Now I have a profitable business and am working on a second one. All of these people and things are blessings. Gifts from God and me doing my best because of all that I have been given requires nothing less.
