Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Sullivan.
Hi Christina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking pictures when I was a child. I loved going around family events and taking everyone’s photos. I always wanted to document the event to look back on years down the road to remember everything that happened that day. In high school, my sister bought me my first nice digital camera. I took it everywhere with me. My photos ranged from fancy selfies to taking pictures of flowers.
As I got older, I was gifted my first professional camera by my now husband (back then he was my boyfriend). I learned everything I could about how to take professional photos and become a lifestyle photo photographer by just watching Instagram reels and Youtube. At first, I would just photograph my kids and make them my muse. Then I started asking relatives if they would like to schedule photo sessions with me to boost my portfolio.
I learned how to use Lightroom on my own to enhance my photos. I learned everything by trial and error. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my children and husband because they are my biggest supporters. I take pictures as a hobby because I love capturing the moment. I eventually want to start my own photography business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. The most difficult struggle is trying to find the time to take photos.
Working full-time in the health care industry can take a lot out of one person.
During the pandemic, I decided that I wanted to do more with my photography. I reached out to pretty much everyone I knew to take some kind of photos of them. From maternity, engagements to kids’ birthday parties.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lifestyle photographer part-time. I eventually want to get out of the healthcare industry to become a full-time photographer. I love when people get back their photos from me and love them. It makes me so proud of myself that someone else loves my work just as much as I do.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the people in Nashville. Everyone is so friendly. I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t say hello when walking down the street.
