Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor McKinley.
Hi Connor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started taking photos about 4 years ago and I would take pictures of my friends and make silly little videos. Then over the next couple of years, I really started to develop a passion for designing studio sets, and outfits, playing with my editing style and really finding myself in photography. I worked a lot with my school news during the Covid outbreak, and luckily at the time I had a lot of my own gear, so I would be at home making videos all the time.
Eventually, I started focusing on reaching out to bands and artists that were going on tour as well as creating short films with friends and a crew that took me in!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One struggle I have faced is splitting filmmaking and photography.
I love filmmaking and working on short films, but photography presents a fun, short-term project that always keeps me on my toes. Over time I have been able to schedule and keep doing both, as well as find a way that benefits both jobs!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would say I am mostly known for my concert photography and taking photos for The Garden, and Joey Valence and Brae. But a close second place is my extreme, punk, colorful editing style.
I like to push myself and see if I can create a world with my work, and get people to question “Was this taken on earth??” And if someone thinks my art is crazy and colorful enough then I am happy.
Any big plans?
I’m currently working on a short film called “That You’ve Known”, which you can find updates for on my social media. After that, I have a few photoshoots planned as well as some graphic design posters that will be posted!!
