Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Myers
Hi Connor , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was in the Marine Corps from 2010 to 2014. During my first deployment, a corpsman with my unit let me borrow a small acoustic guitar he brought when we had some down time (which wasn’t often!). I didn’t know what I was doing, or why I felt the calling to write music, but it continued through my time in the Marines, until I was back home in New Jersey working nights at a chemical plant. One night around 2:00 a.m., I wrote a ballad called “Overseas”, which detailed the struggles military families face during deployments. I woke my wife (Sarah) up and asked her to listen. She didn’t say a word through it, but after, she looked me in the eyes and said “we’re moving to Nashville”.
I spent about a year playing the strip on Broadway to pay the rent, when Sarah felt the calling to begin Chiropractic College. I joined the Franklin Police Department as a Law Enforcement Officer to support her while becoming a Chiropractic Physician. During that time, I also completed my Bachelors and Masters degree at Lipscomb University, while continuing pursuing country music. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep much!
In 2018, I left the Franklin Police Department when I signed my first publishing deal with BellyKing Music, a label owned by Ron Aniello (hit record producer) and Jason Wade (front man of Lifehouse). I recorded music and wrote with many LA and Nashville writers, artists and producers.
Currently, I am an independent artist/songwriter and have been working with some of the most successful names in Nashville. For the past three years, I have been mentored and frequently co-written with Country Music Hall of Fame writer, Roger Murrah, who has been a huge believer in me as a songwriter and artist. Roger has developed writers and artists for over 30 years and has written some of country music’s most legendary songs. Thursday, August 29th, I’m hosting a writers round with Murrah and hit songwriter, Leslie Satcher at the Mockingbird Theater in Franklin, TN.
About two years ago, I was radically saved by Jesus and delivered from trauma I had experienced during my time in the service. As a born again Christian, my current faith-based country has been leading those in need of healing to Jesus. It is the direction God has given me, to develop my talent and pursue this career, while always giving HIM all the glory. I have since been co-writing with some of Nashville’s top writers and artists while pursuing my mission in music. After being saved, my guitar quickly went from being my crutch through hard times, to my weapon that helps others battle through their trauma and find Jesus.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. as mentioned previously, there have been many life events, such as PTSD and other challenges inhibiting this journey, but faith has kept me not just afloat, but above the waves. Though some struggles remain, it is the purpose and meaning behind what I do as a Christian Country artist. It is the direction I’ve been given from God.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being a full-time artist-songwriter and a father to an 18 month old son, my life stays pretty busy! My wife is a Chiropractic Physician and owns her own practice (Homestead Chiropractic), so we balance our lives to maximize our family time and it’s blessing to have as much as we do.
What sets me apart in music is my mission. While there are Country and Christian artists, Im a blend of both. I’m on the worship team at Conduit Church in Franklin, TN. After I was saved, it was the first church I went to, because I was invited by some great friends who love Jesus more than anything. I went and learned the mission of Conduit Church freeing families enslaved overseas, planting churches and digging wells in areas of conflict that governments overlook. It was clear that I belonged at Conduit Church. So, what stands out about me is my mission as an artist. I involve Christ in everything I do in music, to set the captives free in our own country, while pursuing a career as an artist to support the mission of my church. I want to help free as many families enslaved as I can. There are so many great things happening in the Christian community to help those in desperate need.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Above all, Jesus makes me the happiest. With so much negativity and division spread throughout media, I can rise above it knowing my family and anyone who invites Christ into their lives can find not just peace, but TRUE joy. He has worked miracles in my life and is the source of all things good. My family is also what makes me happiest. There is nothing without them that can fulfill my life. Music comes last. It’s a vital piece of what makes up who I am, but it is God given, so I give the praise and glory for anything that develops to him.
