Meet Connor Swinney of Northwest Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Connor Swinney.

Hi Connor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Before moving to Nashville I spent most of my life in Boise, Idaho. Music had always been something I was surrounded with as my dad has always had a deep love for finding new music and going to shows. Growing up he introduced my brother and I to a lot of 90s and 2000s alternative ranging from alt country such as Whiskeytown and the Old 97s to the poppier anthemic music of Coldplay and U2 to grungier sides of alternative such as Pearl Jam. For a long time music was something I enjoyed listening to but it wasn’t until I started playing guitar and writing that I found a passion for interacting with the sounds that had been around me my whole life. Soon after I began writing and playing guitar I took up drums, bass, and piano and quickly moved into the world of recording. Producing and building out recordings became an extension of songwriting which I felt to be an extension of myself and since taking up recording, most of my life has been dedicated to exploring how that practice can take me to worlds similar to those that both mean so much to me now and have meant so much to me throughout my life. I moved to Nashville to find community within people who felt the same and my life has tremendously benefited from everyone here that I’ve met and have made music with!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a producer, songwriter, and engineer mainly working in indie / alternative spaces! I love every part of the creation of a recorded song from the songwriting to production, mixing, and mastering. My work spans each of these areas and often includes multiple on the same project. My greatest passion though is to work with an artist to build a world that feels uniquely themselves by working together through the writing, production, and mixing of a project! With music creation being a very subjective world, I try to focus my work on getting to places that an artist, myself, and anyone else involved in a given project feels are the best representation of ourselves and what we’re trying to do. I see myself, and my work with others, as a translator between complex feelings and what those feelings might sound like to the people experiencing them. For me, music creation is always going to be about the people I work with and how I can help them best extend theirselves to reach their creative goals.

What makes you happy?
Most of the happiness I feel comes from appreciating beauty and uniqueness around me. Oftentimes this is found within the people close to me and the goodness they bring with them. I also find it outside and the connectedness I feel with my environment. I find beauty within music and writing and any self expression too.
