Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Nicole.
Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Beauty has always been more than just hair and makeup to me. It has always been a form of art, expression, confidence, and connection.
Growing up, I was always drawn to creativity. Art class was one of the few places where I felt completely free to be myself. I loved putting my emotions and ideas onto a canvas through paintings and different forms of art. At the same time, I experienced bullying because of the way I wore my hair and expressed myself. I was made to feel different for simply being myself.
What I didn’t know then was that the very things that made me feel different would eventually become part of what made me unique.
After high school, I began expressing my creativity through hair and makeup. I loved the transformation, but even more than that, I loved the feeling it gave people, the confidence that comes from looking in the mirror and finally seeing yourself the way you want to be seen.
Then one day, my best friend’s mom encouraged me to go to cosmetology school.
That conversation changed everything.
I took a leap of faith and stepped into cosmetology, not knowing that I was beginning a journey that would become so much bigger than learning how to do hair.
Nine years later, I’m a licensed colorist, a creative, and a business owner who is still building her brand and finding new ways to turn her passion into a purpose.
But the journey hasn’t been easy.
Over these nine years, I’ve experienced grief, loss of my child, their father, grandparents and heartbreak of being a single women now carrying the load of my children, self-doubt, and moments where my mental and emotional health felt completely overwhelmed. There were seasons where I questioned my abilities, my purpose, and whether I was strong enough to keep going.
There were moments when I wanted to give up. But I didn’t. I kept creating.I kept learning.I kept showing up.
I kept becoming.
Today, I look back at the girl who was once bullied for expressing herself, and I realize she was never too much or too different. She was simply creative, passionate, and learning how to find her voice.
Now, I get to use that voice through my artistry.
I’m building a brand that represents more than beautiful hair. I want to create an experience where people feel seen, confident, inspired, and comfortable being themselves. I want my work to remind people that beauty can be powerful, healing, and deeply personal.
After nine years, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m not finished.
I’m still growing.
Still learning.
Still healing.
Still dreaming bigger.
And I’m still getting there.
This is only one chapter of my story.
Nine years in, and I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
But every challenge taught me something.
Grief taught me resilience.
Loss taught me perspective.
Failure taught me to keep learning.
Self-doubt taught me to trust myself.
Hard seasons taught me that I am stronger than I realized.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Over my nine years as a licensed colorist, I’ve continued to invest in my education so I can better understand the needs of my clients and the hair and scalp I work with.
I’ve taken professional color brand education classes as well as classes focused on scalp disorders, allowing me to expand my knowledge and better recognize different hair and scalp needs. Because I work with chemical services regularly, maintaining the integrity and health of the hair is one of my top priorities.
I believe beautiful color should never come at the expense of healthy hair.
My goal is to create customized color while being mindful of the condition of the hair and scalp. I take the time to understand my client’s hair, assess what it can safely handle, and make informed decisions about the services and products I use.
Working with natural hair has taught me that every head of hair is different. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to color. My artistry comes from being able to combine my knowledge, technique, creativity, and understanding of the individual client to create beautiful results while respecting the hair.
I’m constantly learning, refining my techniques, and continuing my education because I believe being a great colorist means never stopping at what you already know.
What are your plans for the future?
My vision for the future is to continue growing beyond the chair and build a career that allows me to expand my creativity, my brand, and my impact within the beauty industry.
One of my biggest goals is to own my own small salon—a space that feels personal, creative, welcoming, and inspiring. I want it to be a place where artistry and education come together, where clients feel comfortable being themselves, and where I can continue creating beautiful, healthy color.
I also aspire to become a brand ambassador for professional beauty brands, representing products and companies that align with my values, creativity, and commitment to healthy hair. I want to use my nine years of experience and continued education to collaborate with brands, educate other artists, and share what I’ve learned throughout my journey.
Another dream of mine is to work behind the scenes in the fashion and beauty industry, especially on fashion shows, editorial projects, photoshoots, and other creative productions. I want to experience the energy of creating looks for a larger artistic vision and collaborate with other talented creatives in the industry.
Ultimately, I want to take everything I’ve learned over the past nine years and turn it into something bigger than myself.
I want to be known not only as a colorist, but as a creative artist, educator, brand ambassador, and entrepreneur.
I know I’m still on the way there, but I’m excited about the journey.
The goal isn’t just to build a business. It’s to build a legacy through creativity, beauty, education, and the people I inspire along the way
