Meet Curt Ryle of Clarksville Creative Sound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curt Ryle. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Curt Ryle’s career as a musician began at age 7. Curt Was born in Duncan Oklahoma and by the time he was 21 years old, he had already toured with the biggest stars of that era including, Ray Price, Fiddling Frenchie Burke, Darrell McAll, Vern Gosdin, and many others. Curt’s songwriting career however began in Dallas Texas in 1982. As the lead guitarist and lead singer at Dewey Groom’s World Famous Long Horn Ballroom, Curt was challenged by Dewey to write 10 songs for a 25th-anniversary Longhorn Ballroom album. Though Curt had dabbled in writing, he had never seriously tried to write anything that would be recorded. However, If that’s what Dewey (“The Boss”) wanted, Curt said he would give it a shot. Curt wrote all the songs in two weeks and took them to Dewey. Dewey ask him to play the songs on a guitar, so, Curt sang 6 of them. Dewey was excited and immediately set up a recording session. The band went in and recorded them. THAT is how it began. Fast forward 6 months!

Mel Tillis was booked to perform at the Longhorn Ballroom and Curt and the band opened for him. Later in the night, Dewey gave Mel a copy of the album and, Mel later listened to it on his bus! The very next day, Mel called Curt on the phone and asked if Curt could be at the airport to board a flight in 45 minutes!!! Curt was on that plane and the rest is History. Mel signed him as a songwriter the same day. Out of those first 10 songs, four of them went on to become hits.! (“The Real McCoy”- by George Jones) was Curt’s most cherished. Although, (“Dying One Shot At A Time” by Clinton Gregory was his next favorite.), 6 years later and 400 songs later, Curt became Mel’s Record Producer. Curt has written hit songs for Billy Ray Cyrus, George Jones, Gene Watson, Johnny Bush, Johnny Duncan, Lee Ann Womack, and many others.

As a musician, he has played on recordings for Taylor Swift, Justin Moore, Vern Gosdin, Trisha Yearwood, Steve Holy, Brookes and Dunn, Chris Stapelton, and many many others. Today Curt Writes hit songs for European artists who are Super Stars in Europe. He has 15 artists on his Record Company’s roster. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being on the road as a touring musician is never easy. It was a very difficult lifestyle being away from family and living out of a suitcase on a tour bus. However, it is called paying your dues. I had to work in horrible conditions as a young musician trying to get to the top. Once I reached the top as a songwriter, I knew there had to be more. I was never satisfied with being good at one thing. I wanted to be involved in all music had to offer. I quit writing for a few years and became a studio musician (guitarist) playing on some of the biggest recordings in History for Taylor Swift Justin Moore and many other singers.

After years of being a musician, I knew I wanted to be involved in sound engineering, mixing, mastering, and eventually Producing Records. I never gave up on my dream to be the best I could be at all of these things and it paid off. Today I enjoy Producing, writing, being a musician, engineering, and owning a record company, and publishing company. I was taught a strong work ethic as a child and I still believe we can be anything we choose to be if we are willing to work!

We’ve been impressed with Clarksville Creative Sound, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I came to realize many years ago that I was a creative person. People with creative minds are almost always terrible business people. I was taken advantage of many times thinking I could trust others to do the right thing. This almost always ends in disaster for the creative thinker who cares little about contracts and legal matters. For me, it was all about the music! However, it didn’t take long to realize that without a business-minded person in my corner, everyone would get rich off of my work except me and that’s exactly what happened, so, I teamed up with a long-time friend and business mind Steve Markwardt who is also a singer, and together, we formed Clarksville Creative Sound. Steve was the missing link.

He immediately got us involved with big tech companies, radio, cable TV, etc. I take care of the music and he takes care of the business. It turned out to be the perfect combination. Together, we have created a sound like no other and it has only begun. We have a staff of promoters and a big platform about to be launched through a company called the Capital Factory in Austin Tx. We have also teamed up with the CMA of Texas and Clarksville Creative Sound has all the makings of turning Indy music into the mainstream.
