Meet Danielle Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Jordan.

Hi Danielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a child, I always loved the arts. I always drew, wrote poetry or stories, and went through so much film with the one-time Kodak use camera that my grandmother always had in her purse! I attended an art magnet high school with fantastic photography & digital design classes and lessons where I fell even more in love with the art. I got my first DSLR camera when I was in 9th grade, and I started my photography journey (and future business!) by taking photos of cars and motorcycles at car shows! My motorcycle was the subject that I practiced all my skills on, but I always knew that I wanted to capture more; I wanted to capture emotion, love, & the little details of life. I wanted to tell a story, not just take a photo, so I ventured on capturing portraits, devouring so much time and energy into learning about poses, light, and how my camera worked precisely. I captured so many amazing people who trusted me enough to practice on them and allow me to grow my knowledge and skills. In 2017 after a baby boy in the world welcomed me, I decided that I would finally take the step into turning my photography hobby into a business! I had captured some weddings before, but it was for family or friends. I decided to apply myself to the second shoot for others at weddings and invest my money and time into style shoots that reflected my style and dream clients! For a whole year, I educated myself learning about the business and experience of wedding photographers, and booked my first official wedding in 2018! I have always continued to educate myself and pride myself on being authentically me and putting my clients at ease! My style has changed from a romantically muted tone to my signature light, bold, and true to lifestyle over the years, with my niche being weddings, portraits, and boudoirs with amazing clients who bring so much joy in my life and getting to witness whether it is their love for each other, beautifully portraits to look back on, or new confidence in their body today I still have a love for the arts and continue to have passion for what I do!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh my! What a question! It hasn’t been easy! I mainly struggled with finding my style and self imposter syndrome. It was so easy for my mind to wander and doubt my abilities or question my accomplishments. Now, I am in a more positive light and refuse to compare myself to anyone! I choose instead to appreciate their art and the hard work they have put into it and let it motivate me in my art and business. Also, Before I got my LLC and started digging into the business side, I struggled with putting together an easy-going business workflow. I had no work-life balance, so I eventually wholly burned out! The biggest struggle was learning taxes so hiring someone to help with that side of the business was a weight off my shoulders! The biggest advice I could give to anyone is to treat your hobby like a business from the absolute beginning and continue learning and educating yourself and never stop! Oh! And make office hours and stick to them! You will thank me for this! I promise!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer! I specialize in weddings, portraits, and boudoir! I am known for my happy-go-lucky attitude in life and marriage and for serving my clients! I am most proud of making sure my clients receive amazing photos they will cherish and proud of how far I have come in my career! What sets me apart from others is that I am authentically me. I will show up to our coffee date exactly how I am and want to show my clients they can be themselves with me. I show them how beautiful marriage can be and am always willing to be there for them during their journey!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Connect on Social Media! (Advice! Adding others on social media is a great way to be amazed and inspired by their beautiful work and be connected! Don’t be afraid to send a message asking for their rates for being a mentor if they offer it! (If they have the same camera as you, that is even better!) I have met so many amazing photographers because I would message them or even ask to meet up for coffee and editing! I have also had numerous occasions where I got messages for second shooting jobs! If you don’t have one in your city already, start a photography group that meets up for lunch or other activities where you can post events and jobs and ask for advice because we love community over competition! I am in one, and group me is fantastic for keeping up with everything!

Attend Style Shoots! (Advice! Only invest your time and money into style shoots that reflect your business and values! Ex. You are capturing a boho-inspired style shoot when you want a more garden style for your wedding portfolio. Post more of what you want to capture! If you’re going to capture more champagne towers or more black-tie weddings, post them because those clients can see themselves in your photos and fall in love with your style! If you are posting boho weddings but aren’t a fan of them, you will attract more clients who want a boho theme wedding! (Advice!
