Today we’d like to introduce you to Danijela Covic.
Danijela , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2019 both my husband and I started two different companies. Derek’s company was in construction and landscaping of commercial properties. I co-founded a business using artificial intelligence to predict athlete performances in college and national leagues. In 2024 both of our businesses were sold and required our family to move from Canada to Tennessee to finish the business transition. In January of 2025 the transition of the sold business was complete which meant Derek and I were finally able to purchase a business together. After extensive search and interviews with various companies, we determined that our next business will be Woops Macarons and Gifts. We wanted a business with a rich background story that could impact the Nashville community in a positive way. Once the business was purchased, we were able to hire additional local staff, find new local partnerships and continue to increase the Woops footprint in the commercial and customer space. With the experience we have from our previous endeavors we are confident that we are going continue the growth for many years to come and give back to the local community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any new business, there is a learning curve, and still today we are learning more about the business, the environment, and how to better partner with likeminded organizations. One of the biggest challenges for both Derek and I was buying into a franchise. This was a new experience for us. Previously we built our businesses from ground up and were able to make changes on the fly. With a franchise a number of those decisions require the franchise owners to approve or perhaps offer suggestions from previous strategies they explored. While the Woops organization has been very supportive and open minded, this was still an adjustment for us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We offer a variety of flavors of French Macarons. Our product is made with the highest quality ingredients in a Belgium bakery. We only expect the best for our customers. We work with point-of-sale customers through our kiosk at the Opry Mills Mall. We also service corporate events, weddings and any life celebrations. Our goal is to always provide our customers with the best experience with customized products and services.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With the growth in Nashville and surrounding areas, we expect the industry to continue progressing well. The shift in specialized desserts and offering variety to events continues to intrigue our target market. While macarons have been a staple in Europe it’s still a fairly foreign concept in the USA, specifically in the southern states. The product is delicious, easy to display, easy to eat and offer a different taste which is why it’s now starting to engage corporate planners and wedding planners alike. For those reasons, we believe we are just in the beginning stages of the industry here in Nashvile.
