Today we’d like to introduce you to David Adams.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Started cutting yards at 12 years old, and learned the value of a dollar when my dad sold me his old mower for $25 to begin this journey. Sold the business when I was in grad school and learned more being a young entrepreneur than any schooling ever provided!
Grew up in Memphis, always knew I wanted to be a financial planner, and even had an IRA at 16…. moved to Nashville after grad school to start my practice, after a few years in public accounting utilizing my CPA designation. I am also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Professional.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I put my head down and worked 80-hour weeks, calling anyone who would speak to me, and doing tax and investment seminars at local libraries and activity centers. It was so hard getting momentum and getting started but I knew I was where I was supposed to be, and time has proven that many times over.
I feel beyond blessed to do what I love. Was it easy? Not one bit, I even fought a 3-year non-compete lawsuit when I went on my own to start my boutique practice over in 12 South. Not only was it worth it, it made me stronger and I wrote my first book because of that fuel!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
On the side, many people don’t know I’m a 50/50 left-to-right brain human! While numbers came naturally and easily to me as a kid, I also must have a creative outlet or I lose my mind.
I have done 5 major home renovations, most of which have been published in major publications or won historic preservation awards. I love interior design and have a vision for creating unique spaces. I also love to write (wrote my first book “The Currency of Time”), was a lead role in a music video, and teach wake surfing for fun.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Just the power of human connection and how without it, we struggle to find purpose and thrive. We are wired for connection and I never want to solely sit behind a computer doing Zoom meetings again!
