Meet David Ask

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Ask.

Hi David, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 1994, I moved from Minnesota to Nashville, TN to become a famous vocalist. I have recorded three records and have performed on stages all over the country. This week we are actually going to Italy and I get to sing with my daughter’s violin school group who is doing a tour.

My music “career” has been a bit of an odd journey. Just when I thought things were going to slow down and taper off a bit I received calls from a few locations I have always dreamed of performing at… Including a few where I had to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements. My music is available on all download sites including Itunes, Amazon, and Spotify.

You can also visit my website at DavidAsk.com which shows all of the various irons I have in the fire… one of which is children’s literature. I had my first children’s book published a few years ago. While the music was and always has been a significant part of my life, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. About 10 years ago, I helped develop a product that is now in over 3000 retail stores.

My StatGuardPlus.com is in The Home Depot and Lowe’s stores and we continue to develop more products for the professional/contractor channel. In addition to product development, I lead two entrepreneur groups and do life coaching. Visit DavidAsk.com for more info.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This road is never smooth!

Not only are there financial obstacles to product development and music development, but there are also marketing challenges galore. Just because you have a “great” product doesn’t mean anyone will ever know about it. In order to scale a product, you need grit, a team, know-how, and sometimes even “lightning” striking. I have so many stories of how I didn’t think things were going to work out and then… boom.

In addition to business challenges there are so many unseen challenges with regards to headspace, attitude, and overcoming “imposter syndrome.” I have struggled deeply with all of these issues but have found that when you solve the WHO issue, things get much easier. When I say WHO, I am speaking of my view of myself as well as others in my life (who’s) who I have connected with to help me along the way.

A few years ago, I joined a men’s mastermind group (ViewFromTheTop.com) and it has been life-changing. Inside that group, I have found other business owners whose goal is to make sure everyone wins… both personally and professionally. Not only do I have a support system, but I AM also that support system for so many others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My main book of business currently is my StatGuardPlus selling in 3000 retail stores. I am so proud of this and so thankful for the opportunity! My StatGuardPlus is a thermostat guard with a combination lock.

With energy costs skyrocketing, it is “ground zero” for energy control. We are the only ones in the world that sell a thermostat guard with a combination lock.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I am a dreamer and love anything that is inspiring. The word Inspire is my favorite word and it means to “breath life into.” I love to breathe life into great ideas and people most of all.

My friend, Dan Miller (48Days.com) has a tagline in his email signature that says, “Stay Inspired” – I love this and for me it’s vital. Life can be hard and staying inspired is something that always stays front and center for me.
