Meet DÅZR of Clemson, South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to DÅZR .

Hello DÅZR, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are an up-and-coming American rock band from Clemson, South Carolina. We play 70’s, and 80’s rock with influences such as Van Halen, Rush, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and other legendary 70’s and 80’s rock bands. We have been playing together for about 6 months, and it’s just been the best time! Our guitarist, Grant Hendrix, had wanted to start a band for a while and started posting flyers around downtown Clemson and on campus at Clemson University looking for a drummer, vocalist, and bassist. Our bassist, Shranko, was the first to join. He saw the flyer and texted Grant, “need bassist?” straight to the point. He and Grant jammed together shortly after and knew almost immediately it was a good fit. Our vocalist, Austin Hendrix, joined after Grant convinced him to sing and join the band. The funny thing was, Grant and Austin are brothers, and Austin wasn’t interested in joining at first, and Grant didn’t know how well Austin could sing at the time. So, in the beginning, while Grant was still looking for a vocalist, Austin was walking all around campus and downtown night after night, helping Grant put up flyers looking for someone to fill the position Austin would eventually step into. Felipe Soares, our drummer, saw the flyer and texted Grant a little later about being interested in the band; however, for a while, he was on the fence about joining because of how much he had to go on with school and other extracurriculars. Finally, he decided that the band was something he wanted to be a part of. The first time we all played together, we all got chills because of how well we all jelled together immediately. We knew this would be incredible, and it’s been so much fun since then. We’ve started writing our music recently, and our first original has been getting a lot of good feedback, so we are excited for what’s coming in the future!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Usually, obstacles can get in your way or set you back with most things, especially big things. COVID made it harder to find people at first because all of our classes at school were online, most places were closed, and no one was going out. But after it started to clear up and people started to get out, and classes were being held on campus again, things started to turn around, and eventually, we got a band together. Grant auditioned several people for the different positions, and finding the right fit was really important. We were so ready to have a full band and start playing, but we just had to be patient and find the best fit, and in the end, we did. We wouldn’t want to be doing this with anyone else; another obstacle we faced after finally getting a band together and practicing for a little while was getting our foot in the door. The bars and event planners want the bands and music artists they hire to bring in customers or a crowd if it’s an event, and when you’re a new band that no one knows, it can be difficult to get those bookings. However, once we got those first 3-4, our name started getting around, and we’ve been getting a good bit of bookings. We want to thank our booking manager, Tammy, and our marketing and social media manager, Caroline, for all the hard work they put into promoting us, growing our following on social media, and helping us land gigs. They’re truly amazing, and we wouldn’t be where we are without them. We recently put on a kick-ass show at Tiger Town Tavern in Clemson outside on their patio. You could hear us all over downtown, other bars could hear us, the building across the street opened their windows, and we were bringing in people walking by outside who heard us from the street and wanted to see who was playing. It was so “rock n’ roll.” We’ve had our challenges and obstacles and certainly will have more in the future, but we are so grateful for them because they made us appreciate where we are now and continued to teach us to stick it out when it gets hard.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are DÅZR (pronounced day-zer). We are an up-and-coming American rock band from Clemson, South Carolina. We play 70’s, and 80’s rock with influences such as Van Halen, Rush, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and other legendary 70’s and 80’s rock bands. We bring high energy and a great time to all of our gigs. We are most proud of writing together. We recently finished our first song and have some more in the works. Our original music is the same style as the ’70s and 80’s rock songs. So far, we are receiving great feedback on our song, and we are happy that everyone likes it. We want to bring back rock n’ roll. It’s just unlike anything out there today, and it’s so cool seeing people our age that didn’t grow up on a rock as we did, jam out to our music and get into it alongside the older generation that rocks out to our music just as hard and loving it. It makes our night seeing the crowd react like they do while we’re playing. There’s no feeling like it. We have the rock n’ roll look, the rock n’ roll sound, and we have a fantastic time doing it. That’s what sets us apart from others. We are passionate about what we do; you can see it come through in our music and performances.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
As musicians, we love all of the music and history made there. However, we don’t love how touristy it is, but it is definitely a must-visit place for any musician.
