Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Nicholls.

Denise Nicholls

Denise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Throughout my life, I’ve always felt a deep calling to make a difference. As a single mom in Florida, I worked for the Pinellas County School System and took on evening roles as a substitute business teacher to ensure my daughter’s lives remained as stable as possible after my divorce. Keeping them enrolled in their private Catholic School was a priority, even after their father moved overseas to Antarctica. Four years later, I remarried and welcomed two more children. Together with my husband, I helped build a successful insurance business helping others. But like many, COVID-19 reshaped our family dynamic, and my husband eventually moved out of state. After my second divorce, I found myself at a crossroads. I know I still wanted to help others, but I needed to reinvent myself. Navigating the complexities of Medicare and family insurance-especially at my age-was a challenge. But that challenge became my mission. I am dedicated to helping others-I break down the confusing policies and empower people to make informed decisions based on their personal health and finances.
I’ve learned that it’s never too late to start over. Helping others is always worth it! My journey is a testament to resilience, reinvention, and the power of purpose. Through every challenge, I have turned personal hardship into public service–making the complex feel simple, and the overwhelming feel manageable

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has been anything but smooth, marked by personal and professional upheavals that ultimately shaped my purpose.
Early hardship as a single mother
Building a business and facing change
Reinvention through adversity
Ongoing struggles with misinformation and complexity
I am required by law to take health insurance courses and exams every year. It takes months of studying. The exams are very difficult, at least for me! I also have to keep my state license current

We’ve been impressed with Health Insurance Spy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in a bustling household of eight, where love was abundant, but resources were tight. Growing up in a large family, I learned the value of grit and gratitude early on. Thursdays were sacred—my father, a hardworking construction worker, would bring home his paycheck, and the kitchen would fill with fresh groceries. With six siblings, it was a lively scramble for the best snacks, but also a reminder of how hard my parents worked to provide. From a young age, I had to step up to babysitting my siblings, contributing financially, and helping my mom and dad keep the household running. These experiences instilled in me a deep empathy for hardworking families and a fierce determination to never give up.
