Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Shampine.
Derek, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the northeast (Upstate NY) where you could easily find Pierogi most places. I came to nashville to work in the music industry (and did for around 10+ years) but have always loved cooking. During the covid “shutdown” I decided I wanted to pursue that passion and had noticed there weren’t any options for people to get handmade REAL Pierogi anywhere. So I felt strongly that I could bring that to Nashville
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would definitely say no, and it’s always something new everyday. I think being able to pivot and change things where you see the need is crucial.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I hand make traditional and some not so traditional Authentic polish style Pierogi by hand. I’m proud that I’ve been able to get a pretty much new food type to the Nashville population that wasn’t here prior, and within just a few months of business be able to create opportunities for employment for other folks. What sets me apart I would say is my commitment and drive to always push forward and not let negative circumstances hold me back
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always super outgoing and friendly. Mostly a goof. I was always interested in cooking and music. Those interests led me to where I am today
