Meet Dr. Greg Shaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Greg Shaw. Them and their team share their story with us below:

At the age of five, Dr. Shaw had a dream to become a veterinarian. After graduating from the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine, he started in private practice. Dr. Shaw currently works for the USDA and covers the Middle Tennessee area. With a love of music and creativity, Dr. Shaw works as a recording saxophonist and songwriter. He has started a veterinary-themed comic book as well as authored a couple of other pet-themed books. His coffee line, Bark Early Coffee, was originally started for the busy veterinarian but it has been loved by all worldwide.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest hurdles have been trying to figure out how to put the dreams to fruition. I really get stressed when an idea hits and I’ll stay up and cover my house with post it notes until I figure out a way. It can be very nerve-racking.. I’ve learned that just because you think an idea is great doesn’t mean everyone else will.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The creative side of me loves to share my world with whoever will listen. I love to write and play music because that is my first love. While I practiced in Memphis, I started a mentorship program for kids interested in becoming veterinarians. As that grew, I started doing more speaking engagements. The books and comics were born out of that eagerness from the kids I would meet and this allowed me the opportunity to teach kids about animals in a fun way.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m actually more of an introvert. I just have extrovert tendencies at times. I prefer to lock myself a way and be alone with my creativity.
