Meet Dr. Jocelyn Freimuth of ACA Pharmacy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jocelyn Freimuth.

Hi Dr. Freimuth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from a small town outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin and now currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee.

I have always felt a strong connection and passion to help the community from a young age on and knew healthcare was my calling. I decided to pursue my dreams and started my career in the discipline of nursing just before my 16th birthday.

After working in geriatric medicine and dementia care for several years, I found myself educating myself as I put together patient charts and medication administration plans to make sure their medication therapies were best for them.

I found that the current way the healthcare system is set up leaves so many gaps in treatment plans and care between the prescriber and the nurse, learning that this is where the pharmacist role actually can be fulfilled. Although I was going to miss my patients dearly, if I pursued an education in pharmacology I would be able to do so much better for them in a role as a pharmacist.

With a burning desire for a greater understanding of medication therapies, I loaded up my car and drove down to Florida to pursue my doctorate in pharmacy. It was only a matter of time after being in the community as a pharmacist that I would be able to find a role that best allowed me to give the advice of both caregiver and optimal treatments: taking a full look at the patient themselves in customized medications of compounding pharmacy.

Compounding pharmacy allows me to look at each patient as an individual and be able to better optimize a therapy that will give results. Everyone has a different genetic and lifestyle makeup, so we cannot rely on a standard pill to give us our optimal wellness. I am now in a role where I can be a constant learner of the latest clinical research and find innovative treatment solutions on a daily basis and help a wide variety of patients in multiple ways.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A major challenge that I face is having to shake the healthcare system that is driven by insurance plans and formularies more than patient care.

I went to nursing and pharmacy school to fulfill the goal of optimizing wellness and health in the world. It is so hard for me to see patients who are unable to advocate for themselves because they are tied into the modern-day healthcare system that has slipped away from individualized care.

What I want as a healthcare provider is to build lasting relationships with both the prescribers and the patients and create an inter-professional collaboration amongst all the healthcare professions that make our wellness complete.

I want to overall decrease costs to our patients, get patients off unnecessary medications, and save lives.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about ACA Pharmacy?
Our dedicated team’s mission is to provide innovative solutions to get you to your best health–all while giving you the highest quality medications, with exceptional service, and affordable prices.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If I had to choose three essential qualities that I think are needed to be an innovative pharmacist is most importantly have passion for the job. With that passion drives education and constant learning to have the most advanced information to help our patients.

Secondly, have good problem-solving skills. Everyone has different lifestyles or challenges that they are battling so we need to be able to be dynamic in our approach.

Lastly, and most importantly, we need to be compassionate and empathic. It is important to understand and relate to a patient’s feelings and provide comfort when they need it. The “non-pharmacological” care we provide to our patients is can sometimes even outweigh the “pharmacological,”
