Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Spiker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I had always wanted to live in Nashville. The city is vibrant and inspiring! I could always see myself living here so after many pep talks from my parents and girlfriends, I decided to pack my bags in Columbus, OH and head south. This move was a fresh start for me, a new beginning in a new city with a new career. I was already in the apartment industry which I enjoyed however my current position left me feeling unfulfilled and back to scrolling through the LinkedIn job page. My modeling agency, The Block Agency, is located in Nashville which gave me yet another reason to move to the city.
After a few weeks of searching, that’s when I found AptAmigo. The sales representative role matched everything I was looking for in my next position. I have the opportunity to come to work and help somebody new every day. I’ve always found it very easy to connect with people on a deeper level. I love finding opportunities to help others and this role allowed me to be a part of an exciting step in someone’s life, finding a new apartment!
Nashville has been a great home for me! Some days I go from touring apartments and working with clients to photoshoots where I work with some of the most talented and creative people. That’s the best part about this city, there is always something going on no matter the day. But, I wouldn’t have been able to experience any of this if it wasn’t for my support system of friends and family who encouraged me to make this move.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, it was the furthest thing from a smooth road! The year leading up to my Nashville move was one of the hardest of my life. It felt as if it was one blow after another but the only option I had was to continue taking things one step at a time. That saying “one thing at a time” became my daily reminder and there were moments I even had to tell myself, “one minute at a time”. I was living by myself for the first time in many years and I really had to dig deep to figure out who this new version of myself was going to be.
As challenging as that was, there was also an opportunity to sit with myself and figure out what direction I wanted to take my life. I really took that time to manifest this life that I wanted to have. I viewed this move to Nashville as my fresh start. Despite it being more change to my life, it was a chance to keep moving forward and build the life I wanted.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work for an amazing company here in Nashville, AptAmigo. We are Nashville apartment experts! We are a totally free, VIP apartment locating service. Our goal is to make finding an apartment stress-free and fun. I get so much joy out of helping a client find their dream apartment. It’s such a fun experience and I’m grateful to my clients for trusting me and allowing me to help them on such an important chapter in their lives!
I’m proud to say that I work for a company that’s built to help people. It’s a good feeling coming home at the end of the day knowing you helped someone with such an important decision. And I think that’s what sets us apart from any other service. My team wakes up every day with the main goal to help our clients. Our entire company works so hard from recruiters finding top sales reps to our diligent and responsive operations teams and my team right here in Nashville is filled with some of the most hardworking and genuine people. We work with over 65+ apartment buildings in Nashville. If you’re moving to Nashville or in need of a new apartment – reach out!
I also have the privilege of working with Mark Block from The Block Agency. I’ve been modeling since I was 15, so over ten years and I still love it as much as I did when I first started. I’ve been able to work alongside some of the most talented individuals in the industry!
What are your plans for the future?
I try to not get too lost in planning for the future because I tend to miss out on the moments happening right in front of me. In my experience, when I try to make plans for the future, they always end up changing! I’ll be making lots of trips back to Grand Rapids and Cleveland to visit my parents and family and hopefully some fun trips with my girlfriends!
