Meet Emily Gurklis of Paper Moon Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Gurklis

Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Where to start?! My yoga journey kickstarted in college & has been an integral part of my life ever since! After over a decade of practicing, I decided to pursue my yoga teacher training in Montana. I’ve taught in studios for a few years since then & completed an additional certification in sound healing. My nine year career in public education was begging for a pivot.. so I took a leap of faith & started my pop-up yoga studio, Paper Moon Wellness! It’s a beautiful fusion of my passion for wellness, teaching & the power of sound (as I originally moved to Nashville to write music) & the response has been just lovely! People crave meaningful ways to connect & we offer a uniquely customizable wellness experience (combining breath work, meditation, movement, sound healing & more) that conveniently comes to their space.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
NO! It takes a courage to bet on yourself & fully believe in the good things you have to offer.. I’ve certainly faltered at times. It’s tough to start something completely from scratch & promote yourself. The security of a salaried job was tough to part with but having total autonomy over my work, schedule, etc has been so freeing. There have been all kinds of learning curves (Google has been my close friend!) but I’m so proud of the progress we’re making.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Paper Moon Wellness?
Paper Moon Wellness is a pop-up movement studio, specializing in tailored wellness experiences. We bring all supplies into clients’ space (yoga mats, aromatherapy, sound bowls, etc.) to create an all-inclusive retreat day from home! We’ve serviced employee wellness events, bachelorettes, birthdays & more around Nashville. Each session typically includes: slow flow restorative yoga, breath work, aromatherapy & a sound bath with guided meditation! No clean up required because our team takes care of it. Our unique mobile format allows us to take the yoga studio anywhere! At its core, Paper Moon is meant to foster meaningful & memorable experiences- & I’d say we do just that. We’ve also partnered with several local business to offer fun community events (ex: Patio Yoga with Urban Cowboy, Vision Board Building + Sound Bath event with Kinda Collected, Sunset Flow with Forevermore Coffee, & plenty others).

Other notes:
We’re an inclusive female-owned small business!
Hoping to continue partnering with local businesses for community events & building private clientele basis.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My experience as a public school teacher & songwriter greatly influence my approach to guiding yoga & sound bath sessions! Both might seem unrelated but I believe all my varied experiences have made me a better yoga teacher.
