Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Black. Them and their team share their story with us below:
ROCKCAST with Eric & Parker is a video-driven show and podcast with engaging interviews from exclusive A-list artists, relevant topics, and entertainment in Rock, Metal & Alternative Rock music. With a background in video production, marketing, promotions, and radio, Eric Black & Parker Minor have used their talents to develop a high-quality product and production with Rockcast.
Eric & Parker are former 102.9 The Buzz on-Air DJs here in Nashville. While working at the radio station we met quite a few people in the music industry. Most of which are rockstars. It was in late December 2019 or early January 2020 that we decided to start ROCKCAST With Eric & Parker. In short, we have conversations with rockstars.
We started talking with a few venues about doing the shows in their spaces and we had some interest. Then Covid hit in March 2020. Everything started shutting down. Obviously, we couldn’t use the venues at this point. So we scrambled to find a new plan. We bought some equipment and made our own backgrounds and scheduled our first conversation via Zoom! It was our friend and drummer Ray Luzier of the band KORN.
Eric & Parker have a love for Rock, Metal, and Alternative music. We wanted to give back to the industry that has helped us! Whether it be from the songs written, the music played, or literally helping us in some way. During a time when the entire music industry was shut down, we wanted to be a light in that darkness.
Music is life to a lot of people. Music is healing. It can take us away from all the crap life throws at us. It helps us through many trials and hardships in our lives. We, simply, wanted to be a small part of keeping that alive.
Since our conversation with Ray, we’ve had some heavy hitters on the show!
– Joey Dandeneau of Theory (Theory Of A Deadman)
– Jared Weeks of Saving Abel
– Kent Diimmel of In This Moment
– Phil Labonte of All That Remains
– Jasen Rauch of Breaking Benjamin
– Barry Kerch of Shinedown
– Nikki Misery of New Year’s Day
– Nick Wheeler of All American Rejects
– Mixi of Stitched Up Heart
– Dustie Waring of Between The Buried And Me
– Bobby Amaru & Paul Crosby of Saliva
– James Black of Finger Eleven
… and more on the way!
We’ve also just completed our first ROCKCAST Sessions show!
These are intimate, acoustic shows featuring a meet-and-greet along with a live Q&A. Big thanks to Jared and Nikki Weeks for inviting us to host this sold-out show! It was the first show back with Jared Weeks and we were honored to be a part of it! You can watch this live performance on our YouTube channel.
We’re excited about the future of ROCKCAST With Eric & Parker! Now that shows are coming back we’ll be able to do more in-person conversations and festival coverage! Stay tuned!! You can find the show on all major podcasting platforms by searching ROCKCASTshow or watching it on YouTube by the same name.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One major obstacle was the venue situation due to Covid.
Not having an in-person option wasn’t what we had in mind. There’s something about being in the same place at the same time. Eye contact, Body language, facial expressions. Even though Zoom has videos, you still miss a lot of this. You also have to rely on that technology to give you the best possible audio and video. That rarely happens. You have to roll with what you’re given.
Another struggle we had, in the beginning, was simply getting in touch with people. Yes, we had a few friends but we knew we needed to start reaching out to prolong the show. Some of our contacts had been laid off. Some of them had to move on to other things and some of them were just waiting to see what was going to happen. It was an uphill battle. Which was different than what we had initially thought. Everyone was at home now. It will be easy to get a hold of these people. Nope.
Zoom has been an issue as well. I’ve touched on that a bit but I do video production as my day job through Eric Black Was Here so I’m very picky about how things look and sound. You can sacrifice a little video quality if you have great audio but you cannot sacrifice audio if you have poor video quality.
The audio is the key. Zoom isn’t built for what we’re trying to accomplish. It’s a conference call type technology. They don’t care about the best sound or video. As long as one person can hear another person, it’s fine. So, we had to figure out ways to make Zoom work for us. I believe we’ve done that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
ROCKCAST With Eric & Parker is an oasis in the sea of information that is our internet today. We want to take people away from all of that. Even for a brief time. We also want to humanize these rockstars. These people are just like us.
They get home from tour and have to take out the trash, pick up their dog’s poop, cook dinner, and spend time with their families. They are HUMAN. We want our listeners to see and hear that. We believe that through ROCKCAST With Eric & Parker, these rockstars can give listeners insight into their lives. We’re also very interested in hearing stories from the road. Most fans don’t get to see or hear about this. Come escape with us for an hour!
ROCKCAST With Eric & Parker has powered by the video production company Eric Black Was Here. I’ve been in business for myself since 2016. Specializing in product videos but also content creation in general. The quality that I put out is top-notch! I’m very proud of that.
The videos that I create are from the ground up. From concept to creation, I handle it all. I can also take your current footage and make it look better. There are a few clients that requested some smartphone footage be edited. While I’d rather not do this, I can make this look good as well!
A few things I offer:
– Video Production
– Voiceovers
– On-Camera Hosting (Eric & Parker)
– Event Hosting (Eric & Parker)
– Even Coverage
– Interviews
– And More!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
This is MUSIC City. Not just Country music either. Almost any style of music can be heard here on any given night. The musicians here are top tier and there are a lot of them! Good music is not far away.
Since I moved here in 2008, the city has grown exponentially. Traffic is harder to get through, downtown, in general, is harder to get through and it’s a tourist town. Broadway is packed ALL summer long. Great for tourism but bad for locals. However, I still love Nashville and ALL that it has to offer!
You still SHOULD come to visit!
