Meet EV Mae Lasher

Today we’d like to introduce you to EV Mae Lasher.

Hi EV Mae, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music has been a part of my life since the moment I was born. My Dad is a musician and has played in a band for over 30 years in southern Indiana. The first song I learned to sing was Wagon Wheel by the Old Crow Medicine Show, I was 3 years old. From there I developed a love for the classics, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and other great artists. When I was 9 years old, I started singing in area nursing homes because as a family we are always wanting to give back. I had no idea how impactful this experience would be for me. There is nothing more gratifying than watching someone light up because you are singing a song they remember from years ago.

My first trip to Nashville occurred when I was 9, I still remember the feeling I had when the music was flowing out of every building we passed. The place that changed me forever was Tootsies, I was provided the opportunity to step onto the second-floor stage and sing Pistol Annie’s with the band. The feeling of the stage and the support of the crowd is something I will never forget! I knew at that moment singing is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!

I spent the next few years performing around my hometown, Jasper, IN, at local festivals, nursing homes and restaurants. When I turned 12 my parents ran across an opportunity for me to audition for an organization who was looking for singers, actors, models and dancers, I had no idea how much this opportunity would open up new doors for me. I was selected to join 400 people from around the world for an opportunity to perform in front of talent agents and producers in Orlando, FL. It was such an exciting week, I met so many talented people from around the world and met some amazing people from the music industry. After I returned home, I received a call from a gentleman who owns an entertainment company, he wanted to start working with me! He introduced me to others within the industry who develop artists and provide them the opportunity to write and record music. At 13 years old, I co-wrote and released 3 of my own singles with a company out of Nashville. These singles are on all digital music platforms including iTunes and Spotify. I will be going back into the studio this Winter to record 3 more singles which will be released in the Spring of 2022!

My parents and I travel Nashville often since we live 2.5 hours away but it was the early Summer of 2021 that I will always remember. I was 14 and we made our usual rounds, starting at Tootsies. Normally I like to take advantage of their open mic sessions so I thought that day was no different. I didn’t realize until after I was done singing it was an audition. I was asked to come back the next day to meet with someone about performing there. The best part of this is my dad always had a dream of playing in Nashville and it was Father’s Day. For the first time ever, my dad played guitar for me and I sang on the Tootsies stage, what a great memory on Father’s Day!! I’m happy to say I spent most of my Summer and the rest of 2021 performing regularly at Rippys and Tootsies. I have met so many great people throughout this experience, customers as well as other artists.

I’m 15 years old now and have such a deep appreciation for Nashville! I’m not sure where this awesome journey will take me but I know I’m up for the challenge in whatever comes my way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; my age has been something I feel at times has held me back in the eyes of others. I’ve been judged before by some who say they don’t feel I’m old enough to carry a large stage. What they don’t realize is I’ve opened for some popular bands in front of 1500+ people, the first time this happened I was 2 weeks in to being 13. It’s also been hard at times when my friends are going to ball games or have sleep overs but I have to skip those events because I have performances scheduled. I don’t regret the path I’m on within singing but there are times when I have to step back and find a balance with friends and other activities, I’m very lucky my family is supportive of me!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I’m focused on recording 3 new singles, one of which I wrote all by myself, I’m going back into the recording studio towards the end of December.  I’m also learning to play guitar, I started taking lessons 6 months ago and have picked it up quickly.   I will continue to stay busy throughout the Winter performing at many locations throughout southern Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
