Meet Faith Barker of Metazu Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Barker.

Hi Faith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Faith Barker. I transitioned into tech in 2020. I went to Nashville Software School. Soon after leaving the school, I started to go to Girls in Tech Nashville events. I went from being a volunteer to a board member to now being one of the Managing Director of this nonprofit. Girls in Tech Nashville is one chapter that’s part of a global nonprofit. Girls in Tech aims to bridge the gender gap and pay gap in tech for women.

Our chapter does networking and workshop events. We also partner with other meetups to help share all the ways women can get into and grow in their tech careers. I went the entrepreneur route and started my own company called Metazu Studio, soon to change to Metazu Media.

The company is a video production and video editing company. I also DJ and work at a podcast studio called PoddieCasters. I took the phase be comfortable with being uncomfortable from Nashville Software School and ran with it. I went from being the shy person in the back of the room to finding what I’m passionate about and becoming a leader. This doesn’t me I don’t still feel uncomfortable but I overcome that feeling every day.

I want women to know they have a place in tech. I am a big believer in community building and helping other women know they are not alone in their tech journey. It’s hard to take the risk and try something new and even more so in a male-dominated field. TECH NEEDS YOU just as you are. I hope to inspire other women to take that leap of faith and grow in tech careers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I stated above it’s hard to transition to a new job. I had overcome my fear of living in my comfort zone.

I still have days where it’s hard but the more you let go of your comforts the more you grow. I am so glad I put myself out there and have been able to build a community that helps others in their tech journey.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Girls in Tech Nashville always wants to bring in new volunteers and board members. We are also looking for companies to partner with us and sponsor our non-profit.

All of our board members volunteer their time to help others in tech. If you would like to join our non-profit or partner/sponsor our chapter you can email us at [email protected].
