Meet Felicia Jackson of CPRWrap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Jackson.

Hi Felicia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, my name is Felicia Jackson. I am the inventor and CEO of CPRWrap.  My journey into entrepreneurship was realized after my family experienced a near traumatic event involving my 2-year-old son in 2002. I worked in a hospital and was CPR certified but due to fear I forgot my CPR training and was unable to help my baby when he needed me the most.

My husband, who is an Army Veteran, noticed I was panicking, took our baby from my arms, and saved his life. I was devastated by my inability to react and didn’t want anyone else to experience what I’d gone through so I invented CPRWrap. CPRWrap is a single-use CPR template that protects, guides, and empowers any non-medical bystander to render aid during respiratory and cardiac emergencies that require CPR.

My mission in life went from being a mother and provider for my family to being a CPR safety advocate for the entire world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve experienced many struggles and barriers as a female, as an African American, and as an inventor of a new medical product. Access to strategic capital has been one of my many struggles since the start of my business.

Investors either are not ready to diversify their investment portfolio with minority female founders or their terms are too outrageous to entertain. As much as I needed the capital, I refuse to give away 30% of my company for $40,000. I became very strategic with who I partnered with and learn that all capital is not good capital.

Like any other entrepreneur, I expect to be met with many barriers and like many other entrepreneurs I have overcome most of them. The most disparaging advice I have ever received was from an advisor that suggested I change the face of my company to someone White to win more deals. They believed our target market would respond better and we’d have faster growth if I took myself out of the equation. These examples are just a mere speck of what I continue to face but with challenges comes growth and I am certainly stronger for it.

We’ve been impressed with CPRWrap, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
CPRWrap Inc. is a company that produces a disposable CPR template that allows any man, woman, and child to perform the life-saving steps of CPR until EMS arrives. CPRWrap is a universal product that can be translated into any language, has a one-way valve mouth barrier to protect against fluid contamination, visual hand placements with simple instructions, and can be stored literally anywhere!

I invented CPRWrap to be part of the solution to decrease the dismal 90% death rate of the over 400,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests experienced in the U.S. every year. Also, minority and low-income communities don’t readily have access to AED’s(automated external defibrillators) or know how to perform CPR. We take pride in being able to offer a compact, affordable, efficient solution for the non-medical community as a whole.

CPRWrap was recently awarded our patent with the USPTO, secured distribution partnerships all over the world, was selected as a Forbes 1000 company to watch, and won a 2021 Sponsorship with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. In 2022 we plan to launch CPRCanine, a CPR template for dogs!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that in my teen years I was a backup singer for a group in Alabama called Beats R Bassy and in my early twenties, I was a Corrections Officer. Both ended fairly quickly! I really believed I could be anything I wanted and I still do.
