Meet Gail Austin & Michelle Moore of Tater’s CloZet Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Austin & Michelle Moore.

Hi Gail Austin & Michelle Moore, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I (Michelle) had always had a passion for clothes and people. I had been thinking a lot about starting a boutique. I wanted to be able to help women to bring out the best in themselves. I came from a long history of physical and mental abuse on so many levels and I knew this world was full of women just like me! I wanted to make a difference for myself and others, So I started researching everything about starting a boutique. I told my husband what I wanted to do, he looked at me and said, “what do you need to make it happen?” I said I really don’t know but this is what I want. He said, “make it happen.”

On September 30th, 2017, Tater’s CloZet Boutique was born. It was scary, exciting, and a bit overwhelming. I got my first two orders. One was from my best friend and the other was from my daughter, I was so excited. I continued to find vendors. I was starting to get a few orders here and there. At times, I questioned can I really do this? I spent hours searching for products and not to mention the start-up cost in opening a small business, My customer base slowly started to grow.
My best friend was always offering suggestions, ideas, and advice. Between her and the support of my husband, I was gaining confidence I never knew I had.

One evening after hours of searching for just the right things, my husband and I were talking and he asked me, “If I had thought about asking my bestie to partner with me.” My first thought was no this is something I want for me. Just as quickly I thought, I couldn’t think of another person, I’d rather have as my partner. For years, we had been through so much and we were great together. We discussed it, she agreed and we went from best friends to business partners.

I hear so many horror stories about business partners but I think you have to recognize each other’s strengths and weaknesses and use that for the betterment of the business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Starting a business is hard. Learning all the things. Learning your customer base, and then add a pandemic to the equation brings a lot of challenges.

We’ve been impressed with Tater’s CloZet Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a women’s clothing boutique. We pride ourselves on our customer service. We are about building relationships with our customers. We want every woman to walk away feeling empowered, loved, and beautiful. Empowered women, empower women. We believe if you can change the way a woman feels about herself, you can change the world.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are completely women-owned and operated and support our community and other boss babes in small businesses. Remember, when you support a small business you are supporting someone’s dreams and passion, and they, in turn, support your community.
