Today we’d like to introduce you to Gillian St.Clair.
Hi Gillian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened Steadfast and True Yoga in 2010. Originally I think my motivation for opening a yoga studio was to have a home base for me and my students, but now it’s evolved into really wonderful space for learning and practicing yoga as well as a safe space to rest and rejuvenate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it’s not smooth. Being a small business owner, sole proprietor in a booming city it’s tough. I want yoga to be affordable but unfortunately Nashville isn’t. This is a passion project and I believe it’s needed so I continue. But it’s not an easy thing, luckily yoga teaches us various forms of discipline and gives me tools to fall back on when I need support.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Aside from owning the studio, I teach various forms of yoga weekly, co-lead our training programs with our yoga school. Facilitate workshops and retreats.
I guess my specialty is in alignment and content creating. I love structuring classes and theming, teaching others how to share well-rounded yoga classes that incorporate more than just shape making but understanding the eight limbs of yoga.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people think I am outgoing and comfortable being in front and speaking publicly. But truthfully, I’m nervous every time I teach. I would rather hide in the back of any room then be in the front and center.
