Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginn
Ginn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to school at Belmont for musical theatre in 2016 and graduated in 2020. I did a couple productions locally at Studio Tenn and Street Theatre, and after college had intended to work at a theatre in Chicago playing Elle Woods and eventually traveling the globe working for Regent Cruise Lines. COVID really changed my direction and that’s how I ended up moving back to Nashville (after anxiously holing up in my parents house in the middle of the woods for 4 months). While in Nashville in 2021, I started my own virtual vocal studio, I began playing guitar more and writing little songs here and there but I never really considered releasing music. Writing music was just something that became fun for me during COVID and also to deal with this horrible relationship/breakup I had just gotten out of. I started gigging in 2021 with a band called Rubiks Groove and basically was auditioning and taking any creative job I could find out there. Then in 2021 I worked at Cedar Point which is how I met my current bandmates.
Fall of 2021 I ended up working for the cruise line again, however, the day we got on board in Italy the second wave of COVID hit and the entire company was basically shut down again right as they were on the brink of opening back up. I was stuck on board for a month and a half and it was actually quite dreadful so I ended up leaving the company (which was a crazy emotional experience for me as I had originally thought this was my dream job and what I was supposed to want to do after school etc.) and I moved back to Nashville and began singing on Broadway. I’ve been singing downtown now for 3 years and its led to some pretty amazing opportunities.
Right now I am managing and fronting the party band Hype Creek (my Broadway crew) and we’ve done some amazing corporate events for companies like Space X, Taco Bell and more and we’ve gotten the chance to play at over 20 cities in the US and Canada. I’ve also had a bout of inspiration this year and after releasing a song as a solo artist in 2022, I released 2 in 2024 and I’m working on my debut EP for this year, as well as performing my songs live and working on a music video.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles for SURE!!! I pretty much work every single day and I feel like I am constantly working still so definitely learning to relax and not stress is still a big issue for me. I’ve also dealt with insane performance anxiety and depression that has manifested into performance anxiety that has literally made it impossible to sing (especially on the cruise ship where I was miserable and felt like an animal in a cage) so overcoming that was a big achievement for me.
It’s definitely a grind and I’m proud of the way myself and my band has worked really hard over the last two and a half years. We really built our project from the ground up.
Also, being a woman in a predominantly male field has been a challenge especially starting out releasing music. It can be difficult to feel like your voice is being heard or your opinions are being considered in the studio, even if you are the one paying for the session and the artist who wrote the song. I’ve definitely learned (but I still have some work to do) how to voice my opinions and not take no for an answer. And to remember, that I’m the boss.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer, songwriter and band leader. I specialize in live performance! I am known for my theatricality, strong and versatile vocals, fun dance moves/silliness on stage and energy. I am known for being a hard worker. I am most proud of my music and my band that I manage.
What sets me apart? I am not afraid to be bold and sparkly and big and be myself. I will literally show up to a show wearing a wig and a sparkly outfit and look like an insane person amongst a line up of country dudes. Because that’s who I am.
I am not afraid to do things I’m uncertain of. And I don’t let the things I can’t do keep me from doing the things I can.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Staying true to yourself. Creating without fear. Facing the haters head on.
Because every successful person in the history of mankind has had people who love them, and people who hate them.
