Meet Hannah Waters of Vintage Gypsy Beauty/Parlor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Waters.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is hannah and I’m a 33 year old entrepreneur. I own a full service hair salon and a tattoo shop. 7 years ago I was a stay at home mom with 3 kids under 3 years old in diapers and I was so ready to get out into the world and start working again. So I decided to go back to hair school and get my license. Since I graduated school in 2019, I have worked for myself as a booth renter in a salon to get started in my career.

While working at that salon I also decided to start my tattoo career with permanent makeup. I just loved helping women feel beautiful and the transformation of giving women brows they’ve always wanted to is such an amazing feeling.

Within a year behind the chair, and right after the pandemic hit I decided to go out on my own and open a small salon.
My dreams didn’t stop there, 9 months into opening my own salon I decided to expand the salon into the entire building lot that we were currently working in.

With more space available in the salon I turned one side of the salon into my tattoo studio. It was absolutely perfect, now clients can get all their beauty needs done all in one location. No more traveling to multiple business for hair, waxing, nails, permanent makeup, etc.

A year after I opened the tattoo studio another building became vacant right beside the salon. So I decided to take a leap of faith and took ownership of that building to open up a bigger tattoo shop. Which now has officially been open since March 2025.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not sure if smooth is the right term for how things have transpired in my career, however it all has kinda ‘fell into my lap’ so to speak. Prior to finding this building to open my salon, I had been looking all around town for the perfect spot which took about 3 months.

Then I got a message on Facebook one day from the current landlord who was looking for someone to lease the space.

I decided to go for it! That was in 2021, and to this day it has been the best decision in my career thus far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vintage Gypsy Beauty/Parlor?
When I decided to go out on my own and open up my own salon, my goal was to create a one stop shop! Murfreesboro’s community grows daily as well as new businesses popping up, which makes traffic so heavy!
So when I opened my salon I wanted to create a safe space to welcome any gender or race to feel welcomed walking in.
I wanted the salon to offer as many services as possible so you don’t have to worry about multiple appointments in multiple locations.
We offer hair color, hair cuts, hair extensions, hair tinsel, spray tans, men’s cuts, perms, lash extensions, nails and pedicures, and facial/skin care.
The tattoo shop also offers permanent makeup which includes, brows, eyeliner, lip blushing, freckles, beauty marks and stretchmark removal.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is the best thing you can do for your business.
I have gone to many business meetings for local business’ in the city.
I am constantly working with content creators to help get our name out there.
Just getting in touch with people in this industry that you look up to or even just love their work/art. It’s always a good idea to surround yourself with like minded people in this industry that can help you move forward in the right direction with your business.
