Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilarie Zimbicki.
Hi Hilarie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Priestley Miller Preschool has been serving families for more than 50 years, and it is an honor to be part of that legacy. My name is Hilarie Zimbicki, and this will be my fifth year serving as Director.
Our story has always been centered on the belief that the early years matter. We are committed to creating an environment grounded in kindness, compassion, and faith where children feel safe, known, and loved. Through play, hands-on learning, Chapel, and meaningful relationships, we help children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
One of the things that makes Priestley Miller Preschool so special is our small, family-centered community. We truly know our children and their families, and we value the partnership we have with parents as we help each child build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
As we continue to build on more than five decades of serving our community, we remain committed to providing a place where every child can grow, explore, and thrive.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any school that has been part of a community for 57 years, our journey has certainly included challenges. While I have been Director for the past five years, and taught here for two years before that, one thing I have learned is that education is always evolving. The needs of children and families change, and we are constantly learning, reflecting, and finding ways to better serve them.
Of course, we have experienced challenges that many schools have faced, from navigating the uncertainty of COVID to adapting to changing expectations and supporting families through difficult seasons. There are also the everyday challenges that come with caring for young children, but those moments continually remind us why our work is so important.
What has remained constant is the strength of our community. Our dedicated teachers, supportive families, and shared commitment to our children have helped us navigate every obstacle. Those experiences have made us stronger and continue to inspire us to grow, improve, and provide the very best environment for every child who walks through our doors.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As Director, I wear a lot of hats. On any given day, I might be working on licensing and payroll, communicating with families, supporting teachers, planning school events, updating our website and social media, or comforting a child who needs a little extra love. Every day is different, and that is one of the things I enjoy most about my role.
I hope I’m known for bringing positive energy to our school. Whether it’s dressing up for themed days, wearing my signature statement earrings, or greeting children and families with a smile, I want our school to be a place that feels joyful and welcoming. I also believe that open communication with families is one of the most important parts of building trust and creating a strong partnership.
What I am most proud of is the community we have built together. Our teachers genuinely care for one another, our families are incredibly supportive, and our children know they are loved. It truly feels like an extended family.
What sets Priestley Miller Preschool apart is our child-centered approach. We believe children learn best through play, hands-on experiences, and meaningful relationships. As a small school, we are able to truly know each child and celebrate their unique personality, creating a warm, close-knit environment where children and families feel like they belong
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is the people. Everything we do comes back to the children, their families, and our teachers.
For our students, my greatest hope is that they leave Priestley Miller Preschool with a genuine love of learning. I want them to see school as a place of joy, curiosity, and discovery. If we can help build that foundation early, it can have a lasting impact on the way they approach learning for years to come.
For our families, I want them to know we are a team. We share the same goal of helping their children grow and succeed. I want every family to feel welcomed, appreciated, and confident that every decision we make is guided by what is best for their child.
For our teachers, I want them to know how much they matter. Early childhood educators have an incredible opportunity to shape young lives, and their work makes a difference every single day. I want them to feel supported, valued, and appreciated because they are the heart of our school.
