Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylene Checchin
Hi Jaylene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into pelvic health physical therapy began during my time at Northwestern University, where I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. It was there that I was first introduced to pelvic floor physical therapy, and during a clinical rotation, I completely fell in love with the specialty. I saw firsthand how life-changing this work could be, and I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to helping women feel strong, confident, and supported in their bodies.
After years of working in various clinical settings, I took the leap and founded Female Foundations in August 2024, a practice dedicated to empowering women through expert pelvic floor care. Now, I have the privilege of guiding women through some of the most transformative seasons of their lives, helping them move without pain, regain confidence, and truly thrive.
It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m so grateful for the women who trust me to be part of their healing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my own practice came with plenty of challenges—learning the business side of things, building a patient caseload in Murfreesboro from the ground up, and figuring out how to market my services. Coming from a science background, I had no formal training in marketing, so I had to completely learn this skill from scratch (and am still learning!). It’s been a steep learning curve, but also an exciting opportunity for growth.
Balancing it all while being a new mom has been another challenge. Navigating work-life balance, especially in the early months, has been tough, but I’m incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement of my family, friends, and most of all my husband. His belief in me and my vision for Female Foundations has been crucial in helping me push through the difficult moments.
One of the biggest ongoing challenges has been raising awareness about pelvic floor physical therapy. Many women don’t realize that issues like leaking, pain, or core weakness aren’t things they just have to live with. Educating my community and helping women feel empowered has been both a challenge and one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Female Foundations is a pelvic floor physical therapy practice dedicated to helping women feel strong, confident, and supported in their bodies at any stage of life. I specialize in treating a wide range of pelvic health conditions, including pregnancy and postpartum recovery, core and pelvic floor dysfunction, perimenopausal symptoms, and issues like leaking, pain, and prolapse. My mission is to provide expert care in a setting that is warm, supportive, and empowering.
What sets Female Foundations apart is the individualized, one-on-one approach I provide. Every woman’s body and experience are unique, and I take the time to truly listen, educate, and create customized treatment plans to meet her specific needs. I am a hands-on provider and compliment manual treatment with personalized exercises tailored to each woman. I also incorporate dry needling into my treatments when appropriate, which can be a highly effective tool for reducing pain and improving muscle function.
Beyond traditional physical therapy, I offer labor prep classes designed to educate both expecting moms and their partners. My goal is to not only help women feel more confident and prepared for birth but also to equip their partners with the knowledge and tools to provide meaningful support throughout labor and delivery.
Too often, women are told that issues like leaking, pain, or weakness are just a “normal” part of motherhood or aging—but that’s simply not true. Women do not have to suffer in silence. There are real solutions, and I am passionate about helping my patients regain their strength, return to the activities they love, and feel more at home in their bodies.
What I’m most proud of is the impact Female Foundations is making in women’s lives. I want to change the way women experience their pelvic health journey—by providing expert care, compassionate support, and the knowledge they need to feel their best at any point in their life.
What matters most to you?
I want every woman to feel their best and have access to the care they deserve. Pelvic health is part of the foundation of a woman’s well being, and no woman should have to suffer in silence when it comes to pelvic health concerns. I am committed to giving women the tools they need to thrive, and I understand how challenging it can be to navigate pelvic health issues alone. This is why I offer a supportive space where women are heard, understood, and empowered at every stage of life.
