Meet Jaymi Millard of Spring Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaymi Millard.

Jaymi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a saxophonist for my early years…..found upright bass when I was 12. I played in a Croatian orchestra at 13 and did private parties/bar mitzvahs etc when I was 14. I was listening to a lot of rock and could not make Black Sabbath sound right on the old Kay bass so I rented a nice Precision bass and started to ear train for notes and worked to transpose all my sax notes from treble to bass clef. I went from band to band in high school and junior college. I moved to Tennessee and attended Belmont University for bass and music business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The music industry is a bumpy road any way you look at it. I have been successful as a hired gun in various genres as well as recording sessions. I think we all struggle with getting live dates booked when you have to deal with the gatekeepers who have no idea….spotify numbers are great but they don’t “really” tell the story because the numbers can be faked.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in basslines across all genres. I am known for having pink basses(hence my nickname, Pinkbassman). I am proud of the fact that I have built a brand based on integrity and skills for doing live and recording based services. Aside from the pink basses, I have a nice beard that matches the colors of the basses and fast fingers that get the job done. I love hanging with other artists and seeing their visions unfold for what they want to see/hear in their music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck has anything to do with it. I have heard many stories and people attribute their time to luck (right place/right time)….I believe there is something greater than that and more directionally focused so life and business have a plan and purpose.
