Meet Jazsmyne Betts of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazsmyne Betts.

Hi Jazsmyne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first got into photography in 2017. Not knowing much about photography at the time other than the fact that I wanted to pursue it, but I knew I wanted to do more that just capture a moment. I wanted to preserve memories; something that people could hold on to for forever that would bring them joy. Over the years I have learned how to hone in on the art of photography, better my skills and. even challenge myself to do things that I never could have imagined. Because of that, I have been able to do so much; portraits, weddings, parties, graduations, proms, events, podcasts, exploring videography and more. I’m grateful for my journey and growth, but none of it would be possible without God’s guidance and protection over me, and my friends and family who has been such a great support system and encouraging me every step of the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a 100% smooth road, but it hasn’t been so rough that I wanted to give up either…challenges have presented themselves. Challenging but rewarding, I can get a little frustrated when things don’t go as planned, and I have had moments when I wished certain opportunities happened for me but I know that what is meant for me will come to me and I can’t rush the process. My biggest challenge/obstacle has been to learn to back up EVERYTHING! I had not been backing up my work so when my hard drive at the time had crashed I lost everything. Everything I had done and works that were in progress were all lost. I hated to have that happen and to know that it was just unrecoverable hurt me so bad, but it was a lesson that I needed to learn and now I back up all of my files and finished projects.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Nashville-based photographer specializing in portraits but I have also done weddings, parties, graduations, proms, special events, and some sport photography. I am also the photographer for the Black Men Vent Too Podcast with Leon and Johnathon Davis. My gaol is to preserve memories and give my clients something to hold on to for forever that would bring them joy. Something that I am most proud of at the moment, is that I am starting to get out of my comfort zone. For so long I have mainly done portraits so stepping out of what has been comfortable and challenging myself has been a little scary but rewarding. I now that I don’t have to put limitations on myself and because of this I’m thankful to have gotten out of a place of complacency and now I’m open to taking more risks. I’m proud of my growth. I’ve learned so much over the years and I’m still learning, but to see my work from beginning to present day I am just proud to see how far I’ve come. I am also enjoying having the opportunities to network and learn more from other photographers and videographers.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
