Meet Jennifer Cathey of Charlotte, TN (Dickson County)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Cathey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved planning parties – even in high school I used to love throwing the most fun and decorative Halloween parties each year. It was always about the details. Fast forward to becoming a stay-at-home mom with my son; I began diving into the details of his birthday parties, making them as memorable as possible. This developed from birthdays into holidays as well, and my friends and family started to encourage me to do more, go bigger, and branch out. So, what started as a hobby turned into a small business, and now over three years in we are continuing to grow, making memorable moments for clients around middle Tennessee.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There’s no course or professional training in this specific field. It’s an artistry that requires practice, do-overs, and finding what pushes you out of your comfort zone that also continues to spark creativity. There has been a lot of trial and error along the way, but I’m so grateful for where the journey has taken me so far.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in organic style balloon garlands, arches, backdrops, towers, and more. We accommodate any budget, from small table top displays to (our favorite) over the top grandiose balloon backdrop show stoppers. We cover birthdays, showers, weddings, anniversaries, corporate events, holiday parties – basically any gathering that needs some POP. I always love the saying, “a party without balloons is just a meeting that could have been an email.”

Some of my favorite jobs have been creating balloon walls. There’s so much detail that goes into them and I love playing around with sneaking in those little pieces; when the client looks at the display and finds something new each time.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
This is a hard question to answer, as I feel like I was awesome, but I’m sure I was a total nerd. I played by myself a lot, wrote stories, wandered around in the woods, and always had a book with me. I dreamed of being a teacher and a pop star and a businesswoman – all the things! I guess in hindsight you could say my creative side was always there. I actually did become a teacher and taught English for eight years before we had our son. Now I’m a businesswoman. All that’s left is to become a pop star! Move over, Taylor Swift! Ha!
