Meet Jessica Morin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Morin.

Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well this will not come as a shocker, but I am not a native Nasvillian. I grew up in western Massachusetts and moved here with my mom when I was 23. I tried to make my own way by living in Atlanta for 5 years and the universe insisted I move back to Tennessee, so here I am. And I can happily say that after nearly 20 years in the south I officially love it here.

I’ve always loved to plan events and promote other people’s ideas and businesses, so I guess it’s been my calling in life. I can remember planning my very first event while I was in 7th grade, and to no surprise it was a Halloween party (my favorite holiday).

I did everything from securing the venue (neighborhood rec center) to getting a DJ to play music (a friend of mine) and even got a bunch of parents to bring snacks and soft drinks–it was a success. Fast forward to the majority of my 20s, I found myself in a retail career that lasted 15 years. Don’t get me wrong, I loved many parts of the mall-rat lifestyle, but my heart wanted more entrepreneurship and a bit less corporate ladder-climbing.

I went back to college at 35, yes I did that and got my degree in public relations management from Belmont University. It wasn’t so much the degree I needed but more so the prove-it-to-myself confidence that I coveted. While studying for my degree, I quit my retail day job (and lost a fat salary to boot) and worked part-time as a background actor on the TV show Nashville and took contracting gigs in the beer, wine & spirits industry. This is where the Madam Bourbon story begins…

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had all of my ducks in a row and was set to launch my LLC in March 2020, and we all know how that went. I decided to put starting the business off for 1 year and successfully launched Madam Bourbon Marketing & Events in April of 2021. I had a lot of connections in the beer, wine & spirit industries both at the supplier, and distributor level, so this helped me get off the ground.

Anyone who starts a small business and doesn’t tell you they struggled is telling fresh-baked lies. Everything was a learning curve, from setting up an LLC to designing a website, negotiating my prices, to accounting and legal knowledge–I had to learn the hardest lesson of all and that is to not only be okay with failure, but to wholeheartedly embrace it. I told myself if I could just get through my first year, knowing that I will definitely screw a lot of things up, I will have won half the battle.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Madam Bourbon is a boutique marketing & events agency based in Franklin, Tennessee. After working in the spirits industry for quite a while, I discovered the clients I was helping needed more than just pretty faces to promote their products, they needed skills, expertise and commitment.

What started out as just me is now a team of skilled, what I like to call, spirit ambassadors. Our focus is to support start-up, private, or corporate business needs, specializing in the beer, wine & spirits industry, but not limited to. We provide savvy and sales-oriented promotional models, event planning specialists, sales experts and mixologists, to fully support our clients’ marketing and special event needs.

We spend a lot of our time at trade shows, festivals, tastings, golf tournaments, and the like, but we also plan, market and execute events of any size too. Our team is highly skilled at creating unique and memorable events for corporate parties, fundraisers, product launches, or other private events in the middle Tennessee area.
