Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Plevyak.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I seriously started pursuing music my senior year of high school when I fell in love with songwriting. After I graduated, I released my first solo album, began forming a band, playing shows, and building a hometown following.
After a few years of heavy gigging, I knew the ceiling of my hometown music scene was pretty tapped out and I had Nashville calling my heart. For about two years, I stayed in Maryland gigging and working saving up money to move while I commuted to Nashville every two months for shows, writing, and studio sessions. I finally decided to move in summer 2018 with two of my bandmates. After a year of getting established and building a good community of friends, I had an upcoming summer booked full with two tours and multiple festival appearances. Then the pandemic came, and that canceled everything for everyone.
I was very discouraged because I felt like that was going to be the period where I was able to cross into the next chapter of my musical journey, During the lockdown period, my roommates and I had an idea of starting a rock band. We wrote our first song “Sally” within 30 minutes, and magic filled the room. We knew we had just tapped into something special. In the following two weeks, we had an explosion of creativity and wrote an entire album’s worth of songs and recorded it.
We decided to call the band Lombardy, due to the street name we all live on. In the past year, we have built a great Nashville base, finished 2nd out of 350+ acts for Lightning 100’s Music City Mayhem competition, and have played many festivals and gigs since. Life is crazy. For so long, I spent so much time, blood, sweat, and tears into building a career as a solo artist. Everything can change so quickly and now I’m playing in a barely-year-old rock band in Nashville with huge goals and ambitions.
Never saw that coming, but I love it and I love this journey. Thankful and happy to be here in this community of fellow dreamers!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The last year has kinda just fallen into my lap. I am very thankful for the opportunities that are happening right now in my life and the doors that are opening. The journey overall has been very hard full transparency. Lots of blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifices.
To me though, there is no other option. No Plan B. This is my passion and purpose in this life and I’m committed to the grind and working hard and whatever comes my way I will take it head-on. Good or bad!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I dabble in two career paths in music currently. One is a solo-based Americana singer/songwriter. Another is being the co-frontman of Nashville rock band, Lombardy.
I believe where I can stand out in this industry is through unique melodies, a background of writing in varied genres, and personal observations that bring a fresh edge to my songwriting abilities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck is just like life and this business in general. It’s a roller coaster. Up and down constantly. The highs are beyond bliss. The lows are crushing. If this is your dream and passion, you just learn to roll with the punches and keep grinding. When it comes to luck, I am immensely blessed and thankful to be in a city surrounded by amazing fellow dreamers, absolutely crushing it and giving it all they got for their craft and passion.
I am lucky to have supportive parents and friends and be surrounded by incredibly supportive, healthy, and creative innovators I get to call friends. That is some of the best luck I could ask for!
