Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Beer.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the rolling countryside of Devon, UK. My first dose of country music was sitting in a buggy as a toddler while my mum was line dancing to Tim McGraw. I was inspired to play guitar around the age of 10 after hearing the likes of Dire Straits in the back of my parents car and not long after started to sing and played my first gig at 16. During my teens, my direction actually revolved more around racing motocross with a dream of racing/working in sport in the US. Along this journey, while continuing to play music, I was exposed to more and more country music and by the age of 18 (after many tough injuries) my passion for it started to take over when I realised I had the ability to do doing something special with it. Ever since then I’ve been solely dedicated to making great country music. The emphasis being “country”, not just “UK country”! A long time fan of the likes of George Strait and Alan Jackson, my dream is to be the first British person to craft the kind of music I love that equally reaches both sides of the Atlantic and beyond!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! I’ve learned chasing dreams in music is never going to be easy and things don’t happen overnight. One of the biggest things I have struggled with and got better at dealing with is my immense drive to be good at what I do and sometimes getting stuck in the mindset of “I’ll be happy when I achieve this or get here or there”. I’ve actually channeled a lot of this into my songwriting and I think with growing up and experience I try to remind myself of what I’m achieving “right now” while pushing forwards in life! I dream big, and have full faith in what I do, I just remind myself to also live in the moment!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a country artist. People who know me think “country”. My life is country music and there’s nothing that resonates more with me. In regard to what I’m most proud of; I guess it’s the music I’ve made so far and seeing more and more people hearing it and loving it!
What does success mean to you?
In my career, success is being happy and doing what I want to do at the highest level and sharing that with as many people as possible
