Meet Josh Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Davis.

Hi Josh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a little farm town in East Tennessee to becoming one of the nation’s Top 100 Injectors, to say it has been a fun journey is an understatement. My artistic development began a long time ago from the age of 4 in music & theater, and throughout the twists and turns of my life, led me into the aesthetic field where I am today, where I was able to combine and explore my artistic abilities in a way I never thought possible.

I moved to Nashville, TN to go to Vanderbilt University where I was a Pre-Med, Musical Arts & saxophone performance major. Quickly the love of music won me over and ended up going a complete musical route. However, the love of science and the medical field never truly left. After a unique experience in the Vanderbilt ER one day my Senior year, I experienced the career field of nursing and felt a strong pull that it was a way to be able to do both medical and music without having to marry a hospital like a doctor.

So, after graduating, I went to Belmont University and received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a second degree. I got to set a strong foundation for my nursing experience and feel the rush by starting as a Multi-Specialty Critical Care nurse, then made my way into Trauma nursing at a top-level 1 trauma hospital in Nashville, then into Cardiac Critical Care. I eventually made my way into the aesthetic field in 2014 and was lucky to find a field of nursing that brought the love of arts/music back into my life in a unique way.

The face is like a blank piece of music or a blank canvas. Now, I get to create and sculpt art with the face at my very unique aesthetic clinic, Tox Josh Studios in Brentwood, TN! So basically as an aesthetic nurse now, I can save your face and your life! LOL

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HA! My journey has been more like a tire blew out on a mountainous road in a Jeep Wrangler and we are hanging on for dear life, bouncing all over the place! And to tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have it any other way! As a gay man, especially being a gay man in Tennessee, I have had to overcome a LOT of obstacles along my journey. From being told my whole life I would never amount to anything because of my sexuality, let’s just say that takes a toll on a human being!

But instead of letting that break me, I let it light a passion so strong in me to succeed. Not for them, but for myself. To make you think of me for all the wonderful things I will bring to this life, and not about a label society puts on me. From the fear of risking losing financial scholarships out of fear your family may find out and disown you, to having to play the straight card for years to get opportunities, to the everyday worries of will be able to get the opportunities in life I want because people won’t accept me for who I am, I had to dig deep into my inner struggles, strip away everything society put on me that didn’t belong, and learn to embrace myself.

When I learned how to do that unapologetically, THAT is when the success happened. Not to mention the fear all entrepreneurs have when starting something from scratch… “Can we even do this?!” “Will I be successful?!” “Will patients come?!” All the self-doubt one has to overcome also makes you stronger in the end!

So this entire journey has been a bumpy road. But I don’t think I would be the person I am today or have the success I have today if it was not for it. As someone who has had to dig deep and truly love his inner child and reparent him along the way, it truly has helped me be a better injector by not only focusing on the outer beauty but the inner beauty that we all have on the inside as well!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Even though most would consider a Nurse to be in another category you all gave as an option, like employee or professional, I don’t consider myself that. I am more of an artist and a creative. Like I said before, a painter has a canvas, a musician has staff paper, a sculptor has a stone. I create art and the face is my canvas. And just so happen to still create music on the side and incorporate it into my daily practice.

As an Aesthetic Nurse, I specialize in facial aesthetics, such as Xeomin (wrinkle relaxers), dermal fillers, lasers, skincare, etc. I am known for a very natural result, the way aesthetics should be. And my lip augmentations and full-face transformations are what I am known best for! As well as spillin’ the tea and keeping this industry in check and real!

But taking that a step further, to me, it doesn’t matter what we do on the outside to create beauty if what’s on the inside isn’t beautiful as well. So I am also a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, a form of energy healing. I also have two other creators at my clinic, Tox Josh Studios in Brentwood, TN, that are energy healers and Human Design experts that help people with their inner beauty journey, while me and my esthetician work on the outer beauty.

This is what sets me apart from the rest of the world of aesthetics and honestly what I am most proud of. My motto is that I will transform your face while your heart learns something!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Nashville is that it truly is a Big Little City! You can be in the hustle and bustle of downtown and get that big city atmosphere, but then in a matter of minutes be in the middle of the beautiful Tennessee country and feel like I’m back home in my roots. Not to mention all the amazing food our city has to offer!

I would say probably what everyone else says… THE TRAFFIC! LOL, I really wish we could have a unique above-ground rail system that connects all the wonderful places together! One day!
