Meet Josh Delozier of Grounded Land Solutions LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Delozier

Hi Josh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been in the clearing industry for about a decade- the kicker is that at the beginning of my career we cleared with goats instead of equipment! I co-owned Goat Guys LLC, alongside my then business partner and mentor, David. It was a wonderful learning experience and caught a lot of attention. We did jobs for the state, were in the Tennesseean and got to meet some really cool people- even Doug the Pug! Goat Guys was a great, environmentally friendly approach to clearing and a perfect way to clear growth on rocky or steep areas. Though I went to school for Animal Science, ultimately the cost, time and headspace it took taking care of all of the animals and bringing them from site to site just didn’t make sense for us anymore.

I still had great connections and relationships I had built from my experience, and wanted to stay in the industry. An opportunity came up for me to clear a lot of acreage after we had wrapped on Goat Guys and I immediately agreed, figuring out costs, time, etc. along the way. The success of that project and a lot of research ultimately led to the purchase of our first skid steer and mulching head. In a huge leap of faith that was absolutely led by God and not logic, my wife quit her job in February of 2018 (just a few days after we found out she was pregnant with our first child!) to help establish Grounded LLC. We made mailers, a website, a monthly newsletter to reach out to our old clients, and quickly became fully booked. Our busy first year came to a dramatic halt when I got military orders and had to leave the business, and my new baby girl, for training outside of Tennessee. We scrambled to sell our equipment before I had to leave- hopefull that we could resume Grounded operations when I got back in late 2020. Luckily, my wife and daughter were eventually able to move with me, and we were reunited in the midst of Covid.

While in our temporary home, we still worked on monthly newsletters to update our mail list on our journey- trying to book jobs for when we got back later in the year. It was entirely thanks to our amazing and loyal clients that Grounded is still here today. We booked a few jobs once we came back- all from recurring customers or word of mouth referrals, and bought new equipment in another leap of faith.

Now, both our family and business have grown. Again, we’ve been blessed with the most amazing connections and get to regularly work for our friends at Radnor Lake State Park, TN Department of Enviornment & Conservation, and Tennessee State Parks to name a few along with our awesome residential clients. Our offering has expanded from solely forestry mulching to full land clearing, bush hogging, trail creation and land management.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been an…exciting…road. As mentioned, having to halt operations for military orders for an entire year, just as we gained traction, was rattling. When we finally came back to Tennessee, we were still in a world wide pandemic and not only was navigating the in-person bidding process unique, but economically things looked different than when we first started in early 2018.

A lot of our costs sky rocketed, particularly fuel, and there was a high demand and low supply for new equipment and machinery.

Then there are of course general growing pains of a business- seasons of being completely over-booked and working weekends, unpredictable machine repairs and managing work life balance along with adjusting prices due to inflation. I am 100% still learning something new every single week, and while it’s obviously a lot sometimes I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grounded Land Solutions LLC?
Grounded is a land clearing service located in Spring Hill, TN, serving all of middle TN. We specialize in forestry mulching- an efficient and environmentally-friendly method of clearing perfect for making unkept properties look maintained. Grounded is a husband-wife team, Josh Delozier being our owner-operator and who works on every site and bids 100% of our jobs.

We take pride in our thoroughness, discretion, and going above and beyond for clients- so much so that the overwhelming majority of our work has been from word of mouth referrals from very happy customers. We truly value relationships and making your property exactly what YOU envision, which often results in us being your “one stop shop” and full-service land manager. We understand that most of our clients are very busy and that you need someone who can educate you on services your land can benefit from based on your goals, someone you can completely trust to get the job done.

While forestry mulching is our bread and butter- we also offer bush hogging, full land clearing, septic installs, trail creation…and more.

We serve residential and commercial properties, and have completed jobs for:

TN Department of Environment & Conservation
Radnor Lake State Park
Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary
National Wild Turkey Federation
Partners for Fish & Wildlife
US Fish & Wildlife Service
TN State Parks

to name a few.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Greater Nashville truly has the best people- and they’re from all over the place! I’ve mentioned multiple times already the quality of person our average client is and how we truly wouldn’t still be in business without their loyalty and support. On job sites, people are gracious and I feel like I am always treated with respect. This area is also absolutely beautiful, and I’m grateful to work outside all day every day.

It’s good for business… but like many, I wish Nashville wasn’t as crowded as it’s become. I’m just also not a city boy 🙂
