Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Lawrence.
Hi Juliana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in a tiny town just outside of San Antonio, TX, called Atascosa, TX. My musical abilities began when I was a little girl (8 years old).
My parents told my sisters and me to pick an instrument and that they would take us to music lessons. My older sister chose the Piano, I chose the guitar and my little sister chose the violin.
It shows how different our personalities are. We began music lessons and the rest is history. Music has been a part of my life ever since. My parents listened to country music a lot when we were younger, and so I took to country music naturally as well.
I can’t imagine playing any other genre of music. Country music always seemed to come naturally and made sense. I began my pursuit of music full-time in 2014, shortly after my husband passed away. I recorded my very first album in McAllen, TX at Bobby Pullido’s studio, a famous Tejano singer. A year after my album came out, I decided to make the move to Nashville and pursue my dream of becoming a successful artist.
I had many victories and successes when I first moved to Nashville. I won a songwriting contest where I got to meet Florida Georgia Line and got to attend the CMA fest that year. I met my producer by playing out every night at open mics just to get my name out there. I released my very first Nashville cut studio album in 2021. It took me a long time to decide which songs I wanted on the album and when I wanted to finally release them.
It was an exciting moment and I’m thankful for my producer Edgel Groves, made famous by his popular single, “Footprints in the sand”, and Shea Henley my audio engineer and good friend to this day. I have a lot of fond memories of recording in the studio, and it is my favorite place to be. Today, I pitch my songs to major publishing companies and major recording artists.
I hope to have that one cut so that I can say that I did it. That I made it and was successful. My heart has been broken and healed by music. It is what has led me to where I am today, and I am forever thankful for that healing and growth. I’ll never stop chasing my dream because it’s all that I know.
Here’s to the future and the unknowns, for they are what makes life such an interesting journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been an easy journey, and in fact never quite has. Moving to Nashville was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I moved to an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar things and unfamiliar people.
Some of the challenges I faced was being alone in a big city where the neon lights blinded me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter out of Nashville.
I write songs about broken hearts and wild things. I’m known for my vocal abilities, and my ability to play the guitar. I’ve been told I play guitar “like a man”. I guess we can take that for what it’s worth.
I am most proud of my Nashville cut songs and album. I continue to write new music today and look forward to cutting those songs in the studio for the world to hear. It is my legacy.
What do you think about luck?
I’m not so sure I believe in luck. I believe in destiny. My road has been long, and my road is worn and tired, but I’ve not yet reached my destination. It is a pursuit I make in joy and happiness.
