Meet Katelyn Butcher of Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Butcher.

Hi Katelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
my music journey starts when I was about 11 years old. thats the first time I really remember just deciding it would be what I would do no ifs ands or butts I just was an 11 year old who said yep thats it no one can change my mind. I had just gotten my first little camera and started recording myself singing Taylor swift covers and soon after that at about 12 or 13 started uploading those covers to YouTube…. they were horrible. At about 15 an app called musically came out and I started posting my covers on there gaining a lot more traction than I had expected. I then started writing songs and was determined to figure out how to make my own music. I quickly realized that it is a very expensive thing to want to do and decided I would try to learn how to do it myself. At 17 I started an online music production program to learn how to at least be able to make my own demos. oh I forgot to mention I’m originally from Knoxville Tennessee so not to far from nashville. At 18 I moved to nashville and then a year later I decided to take an even bigger leap and move to LA. While I was there I did another music production program so I could learn even more about making my own music, and then a year ago I moved back to nashville to continue pursuing music and writing more music than I ever have. Im now just working on music everyday and so excited to put out my next project

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road defiantly came with some bumps. one of my biggest bumps was at 17 I got diagnosed with crohns disease. That was a huge set back for me and has continued to create times where I have to take time off to prioritize my health.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make music. Im a singer, songwriter, producer. Im known for my music. Im most proud of the fact that ive never given up. what sets me apart is my sound

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I feel like risk taking a pretty big thing for me but weirdly in a way where I don’t realize I’m doing. Im constantly trying to put myself in uncomfortable situations. Im also constantly putting any money I make straight into making more music or marketing which feels like a risk for my future but I just see it as investing in my future. I would say one of my biggest risks was moving across the country from my family.
