Meet Kathryn Currey of Friday Personal Assistants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Currey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I studied engineering at Vanderbilt and spent years as a competitive show jumper. Neither sounds like the start of a personal assistant company, but both are. Engineering taught me to build systems for messy problems, and a busy household is exactly that. Horses taught me discipline and hard work is the key to success.

I started in Brentwood, Tennessee as Girl Friday Nashville. I wanted to create a business that both focused on my strengths and helped people. The families I worked with were capable, successful people drowning in the small stuff. They didn’t need an app. They needed a real person they trusted to just handle it.

Word spread, I hired my first PAs, and we grew into Friday Personal Assistants, expanded to Denver, and went national this year. Our clients now employ their PA directly, and we handle everything around that: finding the right person, hiring, payroll, and ongoing support.

The reason I started hasn’t changed. Getting help at home isn’t a luxury. It’s how people get their time back.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. Part-time personal assistant support is still a pretty new idea, so there’s no playbook to follow and no business model to copy. A lot of the time it feels like I’m feeling my way through the dark, and it’s hard to know if what I’m doing is the right thing.

I’ve never doubted the need. I know a lot of people need this kind of help. The hard part has been figuring out the best way to sell it, because most people don’t know it exists or that it’s something they’re allowed to want.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Friday Personal Assistants?
Friday Personal Assistants matches busy people and families with a personal assistant or house manager who takes the everyday stuff off their plate: errands, scheduling, returns, home projects, keeping the household running. Most of our clients start with a part-time PA for a few hours a week, and we also place full-time PAs and house managers.

What sets us apart is that we’re not a placement agency that hands you a resume and disappears. We find the right person, handle the hiring and payroll, and stay involved for as long as you work together. We started in Nashville, grew into Denver, and now serve clients across the country.

What I’m most proud of is our people. I have an incredible team that have helped me make my dream a reality.

What I want readers to know is that you don’t have to be a celebrity or a CEO to have help. If your to-do list is running your life, a few hours a week with the right person can change everything.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being willing to say something isn’t working and change it. I’ve had to pivot more than once, and every time it was the right call, even when it was hard to admit.

The other one is just not giving up. Starting a business is incredibly challenging. It’s scary, and it can be a lonely place. You have to be able to put those fears aside and keep marching on.
