Meet Katie King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie King.

Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been singing my whole life. I attended Berklee College of Music at age 16 for a commercial voice program. After this, I had to decided what college degree I wanted to pursue and decided I shouldn’t pursue a career as a music artist. Shortly after starting the undergraduate program at Belmont University, I discovered many students were successfully pursuing a career in music while enrolled and taking classes. I dove headfirst into my journey of becoming the artist I had always dreamed of. I started writing constantly. It wasn’t hard to find a producer. I recorded my first song and single-handedly coordinated my release show (which sold out with over 150 in attendance) which occurred the first month of my second semester freshman year. This is right before COVID hit. During the pandemic, I still managed to record remotely and started working with AGD Entertainment and a day-to-day manager to really start to build a brand for myself and strategically plan my releases. Today I feel like it is harder to stay motivated than right when I started and everything was new and exciting. But my dream is more vivid than ever and I wouldn’t be able to continue without the support of those who believe in me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No. It started off smooth, scary, but smooth. One way I have struggled is financially. This is something artists and entrepreneurs alike experience. Being in college right now has also had its pros and cons in terms of how it has affected my journey as an artist. Because of these factors it has been hard to manage all of the responsibilities of school and work on top of all of the things required for me to pursue a music career effectively. It is also hard when your music does not pick up as much traction as you might expect or think it deserves because the market is so saturated. This dream is demanding and builds character.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a pop artist. When people ask me what genres I do I like the talk about how my EP has influences from many different genres like alt, rock, r&B, and EDM. Each track kind of has a different genre is leans towards. I think some things that people might know me for and set me apart are my interests in politics, mental health, and fashion. Some other aspects of my work include creating visuals, marketing, and performing.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love to work with and hear from anyone who’s interested in collaborating, other artists, musicians, producers, songwriters, photographers, graphic designers, small businesses… whoever, you can reach me at management@officialkatieking.com or @officialkatieking on all social media platforms (I respond to IG DMs).
