Meet Kelly Duncan of Hayden, Alabama

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Duncan.

Hi Kelly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was a stay at home mom and when my boys grew up I didn’t know what to do with my self. I had been at a ballpark most nights for 20 years then nothing. I started playing with stamping jewelry then took silversmith classes online and my love has grown from there.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No being self taught is not a smooth easy road. It would have been so much easier to have hands on classes but there weren’t any near me

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work with sterling silver and stones. My friends say I play with fire and that’s pretty true. My faith is extremely important to me so I stamp a cross on most pieces. And scripture references where ever I can. Something I’m proud of is I am a part of a collaboration with over 300 artist donating a charm to the Traveling Charm Belt 2025 which will be at NFR this year. It will be in a sweepstakes drawing with all the proceeds going to Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. For my piece a made a large cross set with moonstones

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson has been to give myself grace. I’m a perfectionist by nature and handcrafted aren’t necessarily meant to be PERFECT They are made by imperfect people by hand with love
